De Bruyne on City XI: "There's always surprises with Pep"
The Belgian international admitted after the game that "some of the changes" were positive after Manchester City secured a 1-2 Champions League win at the Bernabéu.
Kevin De Bruyne confessed that some Manchester City players were surprised when Pep Guardiola confirmed his starting line-up for the Champions League Round of 16 (first leg) tie against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Sergio Agüero, Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and David Silva all started on the bench as Gabriel Jesús and Kevin De Bruyne were the attacking outlet for the current Premier League champions and the Belgian player spoke of the formation in his post game media interview.
"I think, that during his time with the club, today's formation is the most surprising. There were certainly a few surprises when the team was confirmed with some of the starting XI not quite sure of the expected style of play".
De Bruyne added: "It's a great result to take into the return leg although we did suffer a little in the first 15 minutes, but you have to overcome the storm. The first half was pretty even and we started the second period quite well and I feel that our response was brilliant. Some of the changes were good despite us having a few scares though I feel we really battled well together", he concluded
