A 21-year-old football coach has died due to coronavirus on Sunday night in Málaga. The young man had a prior disease that put him at risk despite the fact that elderly people were the most vulnerable.

The man named as Francisco García had pneumonia and was also diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia when he got to the hospital last week with difficulties breathing. The coronavirus complicated his underlying conditions.

He coached Atlético Portada Alta where he was the current coach of the Infantil B side.

"He was a really good guy and a very good coach," the president of the club Pepe Buendo told Málaga Hoy. "They told me he was stable after being admitted on Friday and an hour later because of coronavirus.... it's a very bad thing. I can't believe it."

The club said: "From Atlético Portada Alta we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of our coach Francisco García, who has left us. What do we do without you, Francis? You were always with us either at the gate or wherever you were needed, helping out. How will we keeping going in the league? We don't know how, but we will do it for you. We will never forget you, rest in peace."

Málaga also sent their condolences to the family via Twitter on Sunday.
