Confirmed UK coronavirus cases

As of 01:00 BST (02:00 CEST) on Thursday 02 April), there had been 29,474 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, with 2,352 deaths in total. A total of 135 individuals have officially recovered from Covid-19 after contracting the disease.

Worldwide coronavirus cases

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide at the above time stood at 935,022. In total, 47,189 people have died from Covid-19, while 193,989 have recovered from the disease.

UK coronavirus news

Britain is aiming to increase the number of tests for coronavirus to 25,000 a day by the middle of the month from its present capacity of 12,750 a day, housing minister Robert Jenrick told Sky News on Wednesday.

Britain is beginning to test medical staff in additional to patients in hospital, but critics have said it is not expanding testing fast enough or wide enough.
