After retiring from football Rafael Márquez took the job as sporting president at Liga MX club Atlas in 2018, but just one year later he quit following the takeover by Orlegi Sports. Right now the Mexico legend is enjoying his time off, but he is ready to go back to work and a job in football, as he told Fox Sports in an interview.

“I am very happy with my career as a professional soccer player and everything I was able to achieve. Right now I am enjoying my time off after I quit the Atlas job but I liked being the sporting president even though my time there was short, I didn’t have experience but I have been preparing during my time off,” said Márquez during the interview.

“I would like to take another job related to football but it has to be with a team from Europe. I know I can get a job there because I made very good friends during my time there. Europe has the best football in the entire world so if there’s an opportunity I will definitely take it. Like I said my priority is Europe but if a job opens up in Mexico and I like the project I could take it as well," finalized Márquez.
