Now that Erling Braut Haaland is one of Real Madrid’s top transfer targets, any kind of gesture from the player, no matter how small, is open to interpretation as a nod to Los Blancos. And in an impromptu interview on his Instagram account this weekend, in which he answered questions posed to him by fans, Haaland appeared to offer up just such a signal.

Haaland heaps praise on Real Madrid's Vinicius

Asked about Real’s Vinicius Júnior, another youngster who, like him, has taken world football by storm, the Borussia Dortmund striker said: “Vinicius is a very good player, a top talent.” What is significant is that he himself chose the small number of questions he responded to; he wanted to send that message, it would seem.

What’s more, the Norwegian international also had praise for Liverpool’s Senegal forward Sadio Mané, another footballer who is being strongly linked with Madrid: “The best African player? There have been a lot of good African players these years, but right now I think Mané,” the former RB Salzburg man told his followers.

Both 19, Haaland and Vinicius are two of the hottest prospects in the global game and are among the specialist website Transfermarkt.com’s five most valuable players born in 2000: the former has an estimated worth of 80 million euros, while the latter’s price tag is placed at 50 million euros. In future, they could find themselves sharing a dressing room at the Bernabéu.

Haaland available for 75m euros in next mid-season window

The question for Los Blancos is when to swoop for Haaland: this summer or in the 2020/21 mid-season window, when his Dortmund release clause will be 75 million euros? For now, the teenager’s agent, Mino Raiola, is adamant that his best plan is to continue his development at Dortmund, where he has scored 11 in 12 games in an explosive start to life in Germany.
