Coronavirus: Tebas update on plans to bring LaLiga back

LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, gave a press conference to foreign journalists for almost two hours to speak about the current situation of inactivity due to coronavirus. La Gazzetta dello Sport have published a summary of the topics he covered.

The president of the league has been bullish about finishing the season and says it could return on one of three dates - 28 May, 6 June or 28 June.

"We are considering returning to play in Spain and in other countries on 28 May or alternatively, 6 June or else 28 June," he said. "If we start LaLiga on 28 May, the Champions League will go on in July. If we start on 6 June, they will play all of the competitions until 31 July. And if we start on 28 June, July, will be for the league and August will be for Champions League."

Tebas says cancelling the season has not been mentioned yet. "It's a hypothesis we haven't contemplated," he said. "We want to finish. Probably behind closed doors. It's curious that the teams who don't want to finish the league are those fighting against relegation."

"Not finishing the season will bring about millions of lost euro," he said. "If we finish the season behind closed doors, we will lost €350 million. If we play it with fans, we will lose €150 million."

Tebas also weighs in on Messi to Italy rumours

"I don't think Messi moving to Italy will solve Serie A's problems. They have lost of problems with debts and high wages," he said when asked about a potential move for the Barcelona star. "Serie A's numbers are stressed and this economic problem will not be fixed by Messi. I would like to see Messi stay here but if he went it wouldn't be a big drama. They said without Ronaldo, we would lose money but we increased profits, and in Portugal too. The great players help the league but they are not essential.
