Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema spoke to his former club, Olympique Lyon, during a special television show organised by the Ligue 1 side during the coronavirus crisis and reiterated his desire to finish his career where it started at the Groupama Stadium but added that it wasn't yet time to draw the curtain on his time at the Bernabéu. Benzema moved to Real Madrid from Lyon for €35m in 2009 and has gone on to net 241 times in all competitions, placing him sixth in the all-time list of scorers at the LaLiga side.

"I am what I am today thanks to Lyon," Benzema said, describing Les Gones as the team he carries in his heart. "As for going back, now is not the right moment; I want to keep making history at Real Madrid, which is the best team in the world. But after that, you never know. Finish my career at Lyon? Why not?"

Benzema also described Lyon's current sporting director, who has often spoken of his desire to bring the Real Madrid striker back to the club, as one of his favourite players. "I loved playing with Juninho Pernambucano, and also with [Sylvain] Wiltord," Benzema said.
