Beckham talks with Real Madrid's James about Inter Miami move
Citing sources close to Inter Miami, Goal reports Beckham has already spoken with Real Madrid president Florentino Peréz and the player himself about a move to the US.
David Beckham wants James Rodriguez at his new MLS franchise, Inter Miami, according to outlet Goal.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Beckham has already contacted Blancos president Florentino Peréz to enquire about the Colombian international, Goal claims.
Peréz is reportedly open to discussing the operation and the fact that Beckham has a close relationship with the president, who signed the former England international during the Galáctico era of the noughties, would likely bode well for his chances of securing James’ signature.
While Perez is willing to listen to Inter Miami’s offer, he has not closed the door on James’ future at the Bernabéu. However, the 28-year-old midfielder has had to settle for a bit part under Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane since his return from a two-season loan spell at Bayern Munich last summer. He has featured in just 13 times this season, scoring one goal.
James and Beckham’s first talk “positive”
Citing sources close to Inter Miami, Goal reports that they see James as a key figure to develop the new MLS franchise at a commercial and marketing level and is the kind of star player they want to sign to enhance the Inter Miami brand.
These same sources have also told Goal that Beckham has already chatted with James and while there has been no formal offer, the first contact between the two was positive.
With the Colombian international’s contract set to expire in June 2021, Madrid might see this as an opportune moment to cash in. Although James' current market value is €35 million (transfermarkt.com valuation), which is considerably less than the €80 million Madrid paid for him in the summer of 2014 after his impressive showing at the World Cup in Brazil.
