Mundo Deportivo claims Mathijjs De Ligt is aware that Barcelona and Juventus have opened a line of communication and would not be against a switch to Camp Nou.

“I know where De Ligt will play next season”. President Josep Bartomeu’s words filled Barcelona fans with excitement as it appeared that the club was close to signing the young Ajax central defender who silenced Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo to knock Real Madrid and Juventus out of the Champions League last season.

However, the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, made the negotiations difficult and De Ligt finally ended up at Juventus, where he has so far failed to live up to expectations.

De Ligt demanded more than De Jong

“De Ligt is not De Jong,” so stated sources within Camp Nou, who stressed the two former Ajax team mates have different personalities. De Ligt, they claimed, was more arrogant, demanding to be a starter as well as a higher salary than Frenkie De Jong.

The Dutch defender wanted to climb three steps before had even mounted the first, which was something that did not fall in line with Barcelona’s plans for him last season.

De Ligt-Barcelona links emerge again

But according to a report by Mundo Deportivo this Sunday, De Ligt is attentive to the fact that Barcelona and Juventus have opened a line of communication on possible player exchanges.

And while he is comfortable in Turin, the young centre back would look favourably on a move to Camp Nou should the opportunity arise.

Juventus are very interested in Barcelona midfielder Arthur, while Barça have their eye on Demiral, De Ligt, De Sciglio, Pjanic, Bentancur and Bernardeschi – any of whom could form part of a swap deal for the Brazilian.
