Jürgen Klopp rejected to manage Mexico’s national team

In 2015 Jürgen Klopp decided to leave Borussia Dortmund after 8 years and soon after that decision he was approached by the bosses of Mexico’s national team to take the job but he rejected. During that time Guillermo Cantu was the sporting director and he revealed in an Instagram live with TUDN that Klopp rejected the job because his intentions were to manage a club in the Premier League.

"I asked through a third party if he'd be interested in the Mexican national team and the message back was, 'I appreciate it, many thanks, but I still have a lot to do in club football and I want to go to England,'" said Cantu.

Shortly after, Klopp's dreams came true because in October 2015 he reached an agreement with Liverpool to take the job as head coach and he has been there since then. The German manager has turned Liverpool into one of the best teams in Europe in his time at Anfield and his most important trophy was obtained last year when he won the 2018/2019 Champions League.

Around the same time Liverpool announced Klopp’s signing, Mexico appointed Juan Carlos Osorio to take over the national team. Even though the Colombian manager didn’t obtain the main goal that was to qualify to the quarter finals, Cantu said during his interview that looking back at that decision he doesn’t regret appointing Osorio as the head coach.
