India's Modi gets Trump invite to attend G7 summit
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi got an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the next Group of Seven summit, India's Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday.
Over a telephone call, Modi told Trump that New Delhi would be happy to work with the United States and other countries to ensure the success of the next G7 summit, it said in a statement.
Trump said on Saturday he was postponing until September the summit that had been scheduled for late June in Camp David, the U.S. president's country retreat, and that he wanted to invite Australia, Russia, South Korea and India to the meeting.
Trump conveyed his desire to expand participation beyond the members of the group of the world's most advanced economies.
"In this context, he extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to attend the next G7 Summit to be held in USA," the ministry said.
Hu Weifeng dies
Hu Weifeng, one of the doctors in China whose skin changed colour after receiving a treatment for Covid-19, has died as a consequence of the disease, four months after becoming infected. The 42-year-old worked as a urologist in the original epicentre of the disease, Wuhan.

India gov approves emergency use of remdesivir on Covid-19 patients
India's government said on Tuesday it has approved Gilead Sciences Inc's antiviral drug remdesivir for emergency use for five doses in treating Covid-19 patients.
Remdesivir, which is administered intravenously in hospital, is the first drug to show improvement in coronavirus patients in formal clinical trials and is at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19, which has no approved treatment or vaccine.
The drug was granted emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last month and has received approval by Japanese health regulators. The drug is being administered in some countries under compassionate use rules.
"(Remdesivir) approved on June 1 under emergency use with condition for five dose administration," the Drugs Controller General of India said in an email statement. (Reuters)

"Trouble ahead" for India
As India again saw a record daily rise in coronavirus cases - 8,392 new infections were reported on Tuesday - the BBC's Soutik Biswas has been told by a leading virologist that "things are going to get pretty grim in a few weeks time".
Indian gov debunks false report
India's government has moved to debunk a news report in the country's media, which claimed that excessive use of hand sanitizer can lead to skin disease and cancer. "Use of hand sanitizers does not harm humans," the response says. "Hand sanitizers with 70% alcohol content is recommended for protection against #COVID."

QR codes to aid Covid-19 checks in South Korea
South Korea is testing a new quick response (QR) code system this week to log visitors at high-risk entertainment facilities, restaurants and churches in a bid to track coronavirus cases and prevent further spread of the disease.
The decision to mandate QR codes to register visitors' identities came after authorities struggled to trace people who had visited a number of nightclubs and bars at the centre of a virus outbreak last month after much of the information on handwritten visitor logs was found to be false or incomplete. Starting 10 June, visitors to nightclubs, bars, karaoke clubs, daytime discos, indoor gyms that hold group exercises, and indoor standing concert halls, will be required to use any of a number of commercially available apps to generate a one-time, personalized QR code that can be scanned at the door.
Local governments may also designate other high-risk facilities such as libraries, hospitals, restaurants or churches. The person's information will be logged in a database kept by the Social Security Information Service for four weeks, before it is automatically deleted, according to South Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Situation stable on Line of Actual Control
There has been no reports of new military build-up by Chinese forces on the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, an official said on Monday. Another round of talks took place today in an attempt to defuse tensions caused by the month-long stand-off.
80-year-old man helping migrants for free at Lucknow station
Mujibullah works between 8-10 hours every day at Lucknow Station where he carries luggage for passengers - but he refuses to take anything from migrant workers who have been displaced by the coronavirus, instead, offering to carry their luggage for free.
The Hindustan Times reports that Mujibullah says this is his duty to help. He is also helping by providing food and water to the passengers on trains. He believes he can earn money once things get better but for now he’s volunteering to help.
How to calculate the Case Fatality Rate in measuring Covid-19
Researchers around the world have used the case fatality rate (CFR) to determine how many people with Covid-19 are dying of it. The CFR has also been used to understand how well India is responding to the pandemic.
The CFR is equal to the cumulative number of patients who died divided by the cumulative number of patients infected. Meanwhile, the case recovery rate (CRR) is equal to the number of patients who recovered divided by the number of patients infected.
India's CFR has remained around the 3% mark - compare that to some of the countries in the developed world - France - 15.52%, Italy - 14.25%, Spain - 9.97%.
India's Covid-19 recovery rate is improving, fatality rate now declining
So good news as it appears that India's Covid-19 fatality rate, which now stands at 2.83%, is in steady decline. The figure remains lower than some of the countries who have been hit hardest by the pandemic, including the United States, United Kingdom, France and Italy. Meanwhile, the recovery rate from coronavirus infections is also improving and has now reached 48.19% in India
Kidney patient who tested positive for Covid-19 hangs himself in hospital
Tragic news from Delhi today. A 63-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 hanged himself at the city's Batra Hospital on Sunday evening, local police confirmed. The man lived in Meethapur and was admitted to the hospital on 20 May for dialysis and had been being treated for kidney-related issues. He had tested positive for Covid-19 last week, the DCP said.
It is the second known case of a Covid-19 patient taking their own life in Delhi. Earlier last month, an army jawan hanged himself from a tree at the Army Hospital after testing positive.
Nesco Center Hall converted into quarantine centre
The Nesco Center Hall, one of the biggest all-purpose exhibition centers in Mumbai, has been converted into a temporary quarantine facility for patients suffering Covid-19 infection. The hall will accommodate more than 1,200 beds. According to local media reports, Mumbai has recorded more than 41,000 Covid-19 positive cases.
Karnataka BJP lawmaker performs special religious ceremony
A Nava Graha pooja was performed by Honnali BJP MLA and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's political secretary MP Renukacharya at Hirekalmatha, in Honnali as Covid-19 numbers rose in India during the past 24 hours. A pooja was also performed for the betterment of those infected. Those present at the pooja maintained social distancing norms and covered their faces with masks.
The death toll in India stands at 5,608 with 198,370 positive cases of infection registered since the start of the pandemic while 95,754 people have recovered.
