Barcelona player ratings vs Celta Vigo
Barcelona relied on the shot-stopping of Ter Stegen and Luis Suárez for a point against Celta Vigo. Lionel Messi didn't score but he did contribute with assists for both goals.
Ter Stegen: the German's incredible run of 499 minutes with a goal being scored in his net ended. His interventions were still both necessary and important. Ter Stegen saved from Nolito at the end of the game, which saved Barcelona's blushes too. Another save from Nolito when it was 1-2 was important too. The goalkeeper saved from Brais in the first half and from Aspas before that. Couldn't do anything for either goal. He did commit an error in the first half with the ball at his feet but at a very high level for the rest of the game, as usual - 8.
Nelson Semedo: decent game from the Portuguese, continuing a nice run since the end of the break. Added a lot of depth for Barcelona on the right buit lacked a little more precision with his delivery. Getting a better understanding with Messi but the chemistry isn't where it needs to be yet - 6.
Piqué: the Catalan defender led by example despite facing one of the quickest attacks in the league. Celta played on the counter-attack and were a constant threat with Pique often left to fight it out with Aspas and Smolov on his own. Had a chance to score a goal from a Messi corner but it struck the crossbar - 7.
Umtiti: not the best game from the French defender, who looks to have lost his confidence. Came out to apply pressure in the middle for the first goal and the ball was chipped over his head, leaving a massive gap at the back. Always playing on the limit and got booked for an elbow to Brais' head - 6.
Alba: the left-back is showing signs of fatigue. Setien took him off at the end of the game for rest. He played a very complete game but missing that connection with Messi that used to devastate opponents - 6.
Rakitic: Celta's first goal came from a mistake by him as he passed the ball out from the back. He played really well aside from that though. Recovered loads of possession and gave nice balance to the team, knowing how to move between the lines. Very good performance - 8.
Arturo Vidal: the Chilean fought all afternoon and helped out more in defensive transition than he did in attack. Looked like a headless chicken for spells due to his impulsive nature and willingness to run around the field - 6.
Riqui Puig: really good game from the academy player especially in the first half. Always looking for the best move and knew how to connect well with Messi. Defensively, he worked hard too. He won himself a spot in the starting eleven for the next couple of games after that performance - 8.
Messi: tried hard to land his 700th goal but didn't end up with his name on the scoresheet. He did add two assists to his record though. The first was a perfectly weighted passed onto Luis Suarez, who just had to direct it home. The second came from good pressure as he won it back and fed it to Suarez. Always very dangerous - 8.
Suárez: his first two goals since his injury return. The Uruguayan is not 100% and even though he scored a brace, he lacked the conenction he usually has with Messi and those around him. Lovely finished for the second goal as he spun and drove it into the bottom corner. Jumped above Kubala as the third-highest goalscorer in club history - 8.
Ansu Fati: the academy player positioned himself on the left and gave depth and width to the team. Always looking to attack defenders and run with the ball with help from Jordi Alba. His presence on the field is a breath if fresh air for Barcelona and his teammates need him to relieve pressure when passing it around outside the penalty area is not enough. Exhausted by the end and was switched off for Braithwaite - 6.
CAMBIOS
Braithwaite: not very good. Setien sent him on to win long passes from Ter Stegen and to start attacks but he couldn't get involved. Yellow carded and lucky not the get his marching orders for a hand to the face of Kevin Rodrigues shortly after.
Griezmann: the French attacker has not returned from confinement in good form. Turned away from Aspas for the equaliser. Offered very little.
Junior: started with a nice attack but slowed down after that and made little impact.
Arthur: came on near the end with a ticket for Turin in his back pocket.
