Barcelona have to pay millions for Ronald Koeman's release

La Vanguardia have reported that due to the coronavirus pandemic postponing Euro 2020, a hefty fee now has to be handed over to the Netherlands football federation.

Update:
Barcelona have to pay millions for Ronald Koeman's release

Spanish paper La Vanguardia stated on Tuesday that Barça will have to pay between four and five million euros to the Netherlands Federation to free up the services of Ronald Koeman, who arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon.

Triple payments for Barça staff reorganisation

The Dutch legend revealed in November 2019 that he had an exclusive release clause to go to Barça for free after Euro 2020. However, the postponement of the European Championships due to the coronavirus pandemic meant that the clause cannot be taken advantage of at this time.

Barça, therefore, will have to pay for the coach’s release and that comes on top of the settlement being made to the outgoing manager, manager Quique Setién as well as the one for director Eric Abidal, although the latter appears to be an agreed departure.
