Delhi testing to double following recent rise in Covid-19 cases

Delhi's Chief Minister held an urgent meeting to discuss the recent Covid-19 cases surge and announced that testing will be doubled to curb any further spread of the infection.

Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for a high-level meeting on Wednesday with health minister Satyendar Jain and senior officials to discuss the recent increase in Covid-19 cases.

Delhi reported 1,693 fresh cases on Wednesday following 1,544 that had been reported on Tuesday - the first time in over a month that new cases registered exceeded 1,500.

Following the meeting, the CM said “Over the past month and a half, we have managed to bring Corona under control to an extent. While daily cases have been low as compared to earlier, and the death rate low and recovery rate high, there has been an increase since 17 August. We cannot let the situation deteriorate again. There were 1,544 cases yesterday and 1,693 cases today,”

He further explained that the test and isolate policy adopted by the government will continue, to control the spread of the virus adding that the government now targets conducting 40,000 tests a day.

Kejriwal also warned that the enforcement of rules and regulations of fighting the virus such as wearing face masks and keeping social distance will be stricter than ever. Those whore are not wearing face masks in Delhi will be fined Rs 500.

Despite the caseload increase in Delhi over the past two days, the state has recorded the best Covid-19 recovery rate among others as it was the first state whose recovery rate surpassed 90%.
