Minnesota United confirm Emanuel Reynoso as new designated player

Minnesota United had to pay a franchise-record fee of $5 million to Boca Juniors to sign Emanuel Reynoso. The Argentine striker became the third designated player of the team and he has been in Minnesota for 11 days since the negotiations started between both clubs. He will be with the Loon’s until 2023 with an option of one more year.

Head coach Adrian Heath said, “we feel as though we’ve got one of the best players in the league.”

Negotiations started in January

The 24-year-old is currently rated as one of the most talented Argentine midfielders and Heath confirmed that he will use him in the number 10 position. Minnesota tried to sign Reynoso back in January before the 2020 season started, but Boca Juniors didn’t want to let him go.

“To finally get him here is going to be a huge relief for me, a huge relief for (Reynoso) because it’s something he has wanted. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do with this group of players because it's another huge piece for us moving forward,” Heath said.

Reynoso arrived in Boca Juniors in 2017 where he scored seven goals and gave twelve assists in all competitions. Since he is a designated player the team will pay him a salary that doesn’t have to fit under the salary cap, which will put him among the top earners in Major League Soccer.
