Alexis Vega secures Chivas victory against Necaxa in Matchday 10

It was a hectic week for Chivas. After tying 1-1 against Querétaro because of a huge mistake from  goalkeeper Antonio Rodríguez at the Akron stadium on 8 Septmeber, three days later they had to face Necaxa away on matchday 10 of the 2020 Guardianes tournament.

A red card changed the game

For this game Chivas manager Victor Manuel Vucetich opted to put Raul Gudiño as the starting goalkeeper.

The biggest action of the first half was a red card for Necaxa winger Juan Delgado, after he was deemed to have clearly fouled Urial Antuna after a VAR check.

But despite having most of the possession, Chivas didn’t take advantage of having the extra man for the rest of the first half and the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes.

Alexis Vega the heroe for Chivas

The second half began lively and on the 65th minute, Necaxa opened the scoring thanks to Ian Gonzalez. But Chivas responded two minutes later when Isaac Brizuela ran down the right wing and crossed the ball perfectly for Urial Antuna, who headed it home to tie the game.

When it seemed that both teams would leave with one point each, Alexis Vega showed up big time for Chivas in the 94th minute. The Mexican striker received the ball in the edge of the box, dribbled past the defender and expertly guided the ball into the net with his right foot to secure the victory for the visitors.

This was a very important win for Chivas as it will give them added confidence when they face Club América in El Clásico Nacional on 19 September at the Aztec stadium. As the fixture's nickname suggests, Chivas and Club América are the protagonists of Mexico’s biggest football rivalry.
