Cristiano Ronaldo and Neuer held up as examples for Morocco

The Moroccan national team coach highlighted the weaknesses of his squad following the streak of poor results the Atlas Lions have recently suffered from.

The current Moroccan international coach Vahid Halilhodžić spoke to the press about the points of weakness in the current squad highlighting that part of the players' issues is merely psychological.

Thinking like Cristiano

"I think this one of the weak points, as the bad results led to the spread of doubts among the group, we have to achieve to good results to recover our confidence," Halilhodžić said.

"I'll tell you a negative statistic that occurred in one of the games, we lost the ball 13 times from throw-ins. We just handed the ball over to the opponent. This is unacceptable, throw-ins are a source of attacks now that some teams have even scored goals through," The Bosnian added.

As for the last line of defence, the coach said that the goalkeeper nowadays is not only responsible for defending his net but also for contributing to building the play. "We all watched Champions League and saw that most Bayern Munich's attacks were started by Neuer, and this is what we should do. He plays well with both feet and sometimes he turns into a center back."

The coach also revealed that he is not satisfied with the physical level of his players explaining that most players have excessive body fat. He used Cristiano Ronaldo as an example all players should follow. "A player should be in shape and a body free of fat. No one is better than Cristiano Ronaldo in that aspect, I consider him as a phenomenon and an example that should follow."

Halilhodžić added that Ronaldo was "an ideal athlete who cares so much about nutrition, exercise, and sleeps while Moroccan players lack these attributes."

Morocco are preparing for two friendly encounters against Senegal and Congo which the coach thinks will provide important experience for the players.
