Cavani to accept salary drop to join Atlético Madrid

Despite rumours linking the Uruguayan with a move to Old Trafford, everything points to Cavani linking up with compatriot Luis Suarez in the Spanish capital.

With the transfer window in LaLiga set to close on 5 October, Atlético Madrid are busy in securing some last minute deals with Herrea and Hermoso apparently heading for the exit door at the club with Arsenal's Torreira in the Spanish capital and expected to join the Spanish club ahead of deadline day. Another Uruguayan closely linked with a move to the Wanda Metropolitano is out of contract Edinson Cavani with the forward also hoping to wear the famous red and white striped shirt for the season ahead.

Cavani's agents have been in touch with executives at the LaLiga club to confirm that a move to Spain is the priority for the player despite rumours emerging recently suggesting the striker is destined for Manchester United. AS have been informed that Cavani has told the Spanish side that he is willing to accept a salary drop (his salary at PSG was approximately ten million euro per season) in order to secure the move.

The conundrum now facing Atlético is a need to shift players on a high salary and Diego Costa is the principal candidate needed to leave before bringing in the Uruguayan to Simeones's side. Costa has been linked with PSG but a move for the Spanish international to the French capital is some way off. Atleti are still disgruntled with the way the Uruguayan handled negotiations during the last winter transfer where he was close to moving to Madrid only to make an eleventh hour u-turn.
