Gio Reyna included in Bundesliga team of the week
The 17-year-old United States international provided three assists in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 victory over SC Freiburg on Saturday.
Gio Reyna is another one of Borussia Dortmund's blossoming players this season and in the opening three games of the Bundesliga season he has 1 goal and 4 assists to his name. Three assists in the team’s 4-0 victory over SC Freiburg made him just the second United States player to record that figure in a single game for a European club.
XI of the week
His performance with Dortmund gave him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Week for matchday 3. Reyna’s teammate Erling Haaland was also included in the XI thanks to two goals, both assisted by the US player.
Reyna’s performances have been creating a lot of hype and Dortmund’s coach Lucien Favre commented that he was going to take his development slowly, since he is only 17-years-old. But each week Reyna is putting on quite a show, so it is hard not to talk about his impressive performances after each game.
“He is 17-years-old and what he was doing on the pitch today was amazing. He has a huge future in front of him,” Haaland said after BVB’s 2-0 win at RB Leipzig on 20 June.
There is a good chemistry going on with Reyna and Haaland this season with the playmaker laying on five goals for the Norwegian scoring machine in all competitions. Reyna also scored himself in BVB’s 5-0 DFB Pokal victory against Duisburg on 14 September and he scored the first goal of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season for Dortmund on matchday 1.
