Cristiano Ronaldo: PSG director Leonardo discusses Juventus star
Cristiano Ronaldo has often been linked with a move from Juventus and PSG remain interested but Leonardo says the Portugal captain is out of reach for now.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future may lie beyond Turin with Juventus unsure over whether to renew the 35-year’old’s contract beyond 2022 and PSG have made no secret of their desire to land the Portugal captain with a view to forming a dream team front line with Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Ronaldo enjoys a close relationship with PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and although a formal offer from the Parc des Princes has never been forthcoming, the Ligue 1 giants remain eager to add the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward to their squad.
In a social media chat with PSG fans, sporting director Leonardo discussed the possibility of Ronaldo rocking up in Paris to try his luck in Ligue 1.
Leonardo: "It's a closed circle and PSG are in this circle"
“It could be that one day Cristiano gets out of bed in the morning and decides he would like to join another team. How many clubs can a player like him play for, four or five? It’s a closed circle, PSG are in this circle and people are always talking about us… But there have to be certain opportunities, circumstances, and moments in time. It’s normal that this possibility is talked about although due to the craziness of the market he is not within reach at the moment,” Leonardo said on Facebook.
PSG’s current priority is contract renewals for key players including Neymar, Mbappé, Ángel di María and Julian Draxler. However, there are question marks surrounding the long-term presence of the France international in Paris, with Real Madrid particularly keen to test PSG’s resolve as soon as possible, and if Mbappé was to leave the club would be in the market for a superstar replacement.
