Orlando to host final stages of CONCACAF Champions League

Last week CONCACAF announced that the 2020 Concachampions League will resume between 15-22 December amid the coronavirus pandemic. On 10 November Concacaf confirmed that the final stages of the tournament will take place in a bubble in Orlando at the Exploria stadium.

The Concachampions League was suspended back in March when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the United States, just one day before the first leg between Cruz Azul and Los Angeles FC was going to take place at the Banc of California stadium.

"CONCACAF has developed extensive new regulations to ensure the delivery of a safe and highly controlled environment for all the players, coaches, team staff and officials who will participate. These include a high-frequency COVID-19 testing regime before and during the competition and robust health and safety protocols which will be strictly applied,” read the statement from the confederation.

Three of the quarter final first leg matches had already been played prior to the suspension of the competition on 12 March. The only series that didn’t start was the one between LAFC and Cruz Azul, for that reason they will play a single-elimination game on 16 December in Orlando.

The rest of the series

Prior to the suspension of the competition, Tigres UANL defeated New York City FC 1-0, Club América defeated Atlanta United 3-0 and Olimpia beat Montreal 2-1 all in the first leg of each respective series. These three teams will face each other in Orlando to advance to the next round.
