Gio Reyna has signed contract extension with Borussia Dortmund – ESPN
The 18-year-old made his debut with the United States men’s national team last Thursday against Wales and played 79 minutes in the 0-0 draw.
According to ESPN, Giovanni Reyna signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund prior to joining the United States men’s national team camp for the November international break. The Bundesliga team extended the 18-year-old's contract until 2024.
The idea of Borussia Dortmund is to retain Reyna, with many clubs in Europe enquiring about the United States international. He signed a three-year deal back in November 2018 when he was at the New York City FC academy and joined BVB in July 2019.
Reyna finally made his debut with the first team on 18 January, 2020 when he came in as a substitute in the 72nd minute in Dortmund's 5-3 over FC Augsburg for the Bundesliga. In that game, he became the youngest American, at 17 years and 66 days old, to play in the German first division league.
A regular starter for Dortmund
This season he has become a very important player for Lucie Favre and in seven Bundesliga appearances he has scored one goal and provided four assists. He also has played three games in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League and he set up Erling Haaland with an assist in the game against Lazio.
