Current Champions League titleholders Bayern Munich will try to secure their presence in the last 16 for the 13th consecutive season with a home victory against Salzburg in Group A. The Bavarians have already beat the Austrian outfit in the last game, with four Bayern goals that came from minutes 79 to 92.

David versus Goliath

Hans-Dieter Flick’s men seem to be as sharp as last season: they have won all the three Champions League games they have played and are the Bundesliga leaders, with six wins, one draw and one defeat for a total of 19 points.

Meanwhile, their opponents Salzburg go into the match in last place, with just one point, after losing to the German giants and Atlético Madrid and earning a draw against Lokomotiv.

Salzburg would stance a chance even losing

Despite those bad results and even if Jesse Marsch’s team could not get a point in Munich and Atlético grabbed a home win against Lokomotiv, they could still have a chance to go through: they would need to beat Lokomotiv in Moscow and Atlético at home and expect Bayern to win against the Colchoneros in Madrid.

Kimmich and Davies, out

Bayern won’t be able to call upon Joshua Kimmich, out due to a meniscus damage suffered in the win against Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga.

On the other hand, Alphonso Davies, with a torn ankle ligament, will miss out the match while Lucas Hernández is doubftful having suffered bruising to his pelvic region after a collision in the encounter against Werder Bremen in the domestic competition.

However, Flick may not be too worried about the team's injury situation as he will be able to call upon Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman, Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané.

As for Salzburg, Patson Daka, with a thigh injury, won’t feature against Bayern and Antonie Bernede is also unavailable.

Zlatko Junuzovic and Masara Okugawa, who have both scored in Champions League this season, are doubtful to feature after missing out the match against Sturm Graz in the Austrian league.
