CONCACAF Champions League: schedule set for final rounds of playoffs
The dates and venues are set for the quarter-finals of the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League and they will start on 15 December in Orlando, Florida.
Back in March, Cruz Azul had arrived in Los Angeles to face LAFC for the first leg of the quarter-final of the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League. The morning of that gameday, the United States authorities decided to postpone all sports activities as the country went into lockdown and everyone was ordered to remain quarantined due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nine months later, CONCACAF confirmed that the 2020 tournament was going to resume amid the covid-19 pandemic and all the games will be played at Exploria Stadium in Orlando from 15-22 December. All games will be played behind closed doors at Inter Miami FC’s new stadium.
Only the matchup between LAFC and Cruz Azul will be a single-elimination game to advance to the semi-finals, because the rest of the quarter-final ties were able to play the first leg prior to the postponement of the tournament in early March.
There teams will enter a ‘bubble’ in Orlando, just like the MLS is Back tournament, to prevent the spread of coronavirus among players and coaching staff. There will be a total of seven matches and the final will be played on 22 December.
