Real-Life "Party Monster" Michael Alig dies at 54
The notorious party promoter, who served 17 years in prison for murdering and dismembering his friend died on Christmas Day in his NY apartment by an alleged heroin overdose.
Infamous New York club promoter Michael Alig died at the age of 54 in his New York apartment after an alleged heroin overdose.
Alig cut his teeth in the NY clubbing scene at the Danceteria becoming part of a scene known as the 'Club Kids' and in the 1990s was in charge of a famous chain of nightclubs in the Big Apple that included the likes Limelight and the Palladium and was notorious for a series of antics that invariably included outrageous clothing and sex, drugs and rock n' roll. In 1996, Alig pleaded guilty to collaborating in the murder of his drug dealer, Andre “Angel” Melendez and served 17 years in prison.
The 2003 film Party Monster starring Macaulay Culkin and Marilyn Manson was based on Alig's life and bombed at the box office and was met with a barrage of negative reviews. Alig claimed to be writing a book 'Aligula' on his last Twitter post earlier this year.
