Brutal confrontation between Trump supporters and the police in the Capitol

The assault on the Capitol by an enraged mob of Trump supporters led to a brutal confrontation between the police and the protesters.

Pro-Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol this afternoon, where a joint session of Congress was taking place to certify Joe Biden's win in the presidential election. The rioters broke into the Capitol, leading to clashes with law enforcement officers.

The situation led to police officers in riot gear being stationed throughout the building, while tear gas was deployed to force the pro-Trump rioters to leave. The Capitol police say the Senate will not be in session "any time soon", as the buiding is "trashed".
