Indian club Odisha FC have terminated the contract of head coach Stuart Baxter after he told a post-match interview that one of his players would have had to "get raped" to win a penalty.

Baxter was speaking after Odisha's 1-0 defeat to Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League on Monday.

Odisha "appalled" by Baxter's "unacceptable" comments

Odisha immediately condemned the 67-year-old's remarks, before confirming his departure on Tuesday.

"The Club is appalled at the comments made by Head Coach, Stuart Baxter during the post-match interview today," Odisha said in a statement on Monday. "It is completely unacceptable whatever the context and does not reflect the values of the club."

"We, at Odisha FC, unreservedly apologize".

Baxter had been in charge at Odisha since June 2020.
