Al Duhail to play at Club World Cup for the first time
Having become the first Qatari club to win the Asian Cup in 2019, Al Duhail will now play at the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time following their seventh domestic league triumph.
Qatari club Al Duhail SC will play at the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time after they beat out Al Rayyan by a single point to win the Qatar Stars League title. The competition will be held in Qatar from the 4-11 February, with Al Duhail representing the host country.
The club was established in 2009 and was later renamed following a merger with Al Gaish SC in 2017. Since joining the Qatari League, Al Duhail has achieved several domestic triumphs, including seven league titles, three Emir of Qatar Cup titles and one Qatar Cup.
Furthermore, the club’s success at the domestic level has allowed it to appear in the AFC Champions League for nine consecutive seasons since 2012.
Al Duhail’s squad includes several players from the Qatari national team, who, along with their foreign team mates, led the team to Asian Cup glory in 2019, becoming the first club in Qatari history to win the competition.
Among the squad are central defender Bassam Al-Rawi, midfleilders Ali Afif and Asim Madbo, and Al-Moez Ali, winner of the best player and Golden Boot awards in the last two editions of the AFC Asian Cup.
Veteran Moroccan international defender Mahdi Ben Attia, Belgian winger Edmilson, and attacking midfielder Dudu, who is on loan from Brazilian club Palmeiras, also play among the team’s ranks.
