Al Ahly 0-2 Bayern Munich: results, summary, goals - Club World Cup semi-final

Bayern Munich's Polish forward Robert Lewandowski looks on during the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final football match between Egypt's Al-Ahly and Germany's Bayern Munich at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in the Qatari city of Ar-Rayyan on February 8, 2021. (Photo by Karim JAAFAR / AFP)

Al Ahly-Bayern Munich

Many thanks for your time tonight as Bayern edge closer to the sextet with a hard fought 2-0 win over Al Ahly.

The whistle sounds and Bayern march on to the CWC Final where they will face Tigres next Thursday.

94

A valiant effort in the second half from Al Ahly despite not really threatening Neuer's goal but an accomplished display from Bayern who always kept the Cairo side at arms length.

93

Bayern press as Musiala looking to strike on target ...the ball is deflected for a corner for the German side.

Bayern still on track to win a sextet of titles under Hansi Flick.

90

Time running down now with 4 minutes of time to be added.

Lewandowski looks for his third with a  speculative volley which fails to trouble the Al Ahly keeper. The Polish striker one goal behind French veteran striker Gignac as top scorer in the tournament with the Tigres man on three goals.

That late goal will almost see Bayern facing Tigres next Thursday in the CWC final. The first time a Mexican side have reached the final of the competition.

RL

A brace from the Polish striker tonight.

Gooooooool. Lewandowski seals it. Sane cross and the Polish striker heads into an empty night to secure the win for Bayern.

85

The clock is against the Egyptian side as we drift towards the 90' mark.

Sherif tries to latch onto a long ball but Neuer is alert and gathers and averts the danger. This has been far from comfortable for pre tournament favourites FC Bayern.

Mohamed off and Sherif is his replacement

Sane takes the free but thinders the ball into the Al Ahly wall.

Dangerous free kick for Bayern as Sané is upended by three Al Ahly players. Long way out as Amr El Solia receives treatment.

Al Ahly break and once again the final ball is poor and the move breaks down... we head towards the 80 minute mark now with Bayern riding the storm ....

Boateng off/Sule on and Coman off for Musiala on for the winger.

Bayern opt for a training ground routine which fails to come off....

76

Bayern have been well off their best in the second half as they earn a dangerous free kick on the edge of the area of the Al Ahly box.

Positive changes from Pitso Mosimane as looks to inject fresh blood into his front line. Just over 15 minutes left here in Doha. Can Al Ahly find an equaliser and take the game to extra time ?

Mohsen comes off the bench to replace El Shahat

and Kahraba swapped for Walter Bwalya

3 changes for Al Ahly:

Afsha off-Aliou Dieng on

Changes for Bayern: Roca off and Tolisso on for FCB.

Bayern have also yet to really trouble the Al Ahly goal in the second half too it has to be said. It's a better half given the more positive attitude from the Cairo men but the bulk of the action is in the middle of the park.

Great battle developing between Davies and El Shahat on the Al Ahly right hand side

64

This is far from comfortable for Bayern in this second half and whist Neuer has yet to be really tested, Al Ahly are a different proposition in this half.

Gnabry too makes way for Sane

Choupo Moting comes on for Muller

Bayern still very much on top possession-wise.

Muller ficks and Lewandowski almost makes it two. The keeper is alert and snatches the ball. Whilst the game remains at 1-0, the aspirations for Al Ahly are very much alive to claw their way back into the tie.

56

Coman strikes and Yasser Ibrahim deflects the ball behind for a corner kick. Muller heads and the keeper tips over.

Ahly break again at pace but this time too many white shirts snub out the move. A much better second half showing from the Cairo based outfit.

53

Coman at pace but his pass is mis-placed as Hussein El Shahat breaks and sees his cross blocked. Great noise coming from the supporters here in Al-Rayyan ...

Loose pass from Bayern and Al Ahly break but as we've seen too many times tonight, the final pass lets the Egyptian side down.

50

Gnabry looks to the ref as he's fouled on the edge of the area. The match official waves his head with a goal kick the resulting decision.

50

Hussein El Shahat does well beating two men and sees his shot deflected .... much, much better from the champions of Africa.

Bright start from Pitso Mosimane's side in the opening minutes of the half as they generate a series of passes but a cross/shot is straight into the hands of Neuer.

Off we go.... Al Ahly start the second half

What can the Egyptian giants offer by way of reply? An early goal for the men in red would be the perfect tonic for Pitso's men.

The sides are back on the pitch with the second half of the second semi final just moments away

Timely tweet from Umbro !

RL

Tonight's Bayern goal hero with Robert Lewandowski on target for the Bundesliga side.

Bayern totally dominant but just one goal to show for all their pressure.  At present it's the German side who will face Tigres in the final next Thursday.

The whistle sounds in Al Rayyan

45

We'll have one additional minute of time added on at the end of the half.

Cairo

Ahly fans watching the game tonight in a cafe in Cairo.

43

Kimmich drives a free kick and the keeper spills but the men in red avert the danger.

Nothing what you would call a save from Manuel Neuer in the first 45'. One or two interventions from the German stopper but a placid first half for the keeper.

40

Davies goes inches wide as he pulls a right footed effort just past the Al Ahly post with the German side upping the intensity level as we move into the final five minutes of the half.

36

Lewandowski gets a fine ball from Boateng and this time the Polish striker chips over with Al Ahly caught out at the back.

Bayern set to face SS Lazio in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League with games in February and March.

35

Bayern so good at organising themselves defensively as Al Ahly look to break. White shirts regrouping as the men in red look to strike with pace.

31

Coman and Gnabry have looked excellent tonight with Davies enjoying a good first 30 minutes for the German side.

29

Gnabry drives from long range with his effort straight at El Shenawi

Change for Al Ahly / Ali Maâloul makes way and Yasser Ibrahim is his replacement as we see Maaloul in tears.

26

Marc Roca strikes again after a 'Harlem Globetrotters' style passing sequence from Bayern.

Looks like the Tunisian may not be able to carry on....

Marc Roca goes close as Ali Maâloul needs medical assistance with an apparent hamstring problem.

Al A

Plenty of support for Al Ahly here tonight

Al Ahly almost draw level as Neuer is forced to save with the side from Egypt look to secure a foothold back in the game.

It's been one way traffic here in Doha and Bayern yet to be really threatened by the side from Cairo.

Goooooooll

Lewandoski fires Bayern ahead.  It was coming ..... Gnabry finds the Polish striker and he slots past the Alhy keeper.

16

El Shenawi once again at the heart of the action as he clears from Coman .... Bayern knocking on the door....Muller latches on to a corner and heads straight at the Al Ahly keeper.

14

Bayern free kick with Kimmich to take. El Shenawi miscues his punch and the ball is cleared for a corner for FCB.  Bayern still probling here....This time El Shenawi connects and punches clear and Kahraba has a speculative long range effort.

Mohamed El Shenawi once again forced to intervene as Coman breaks and looks to find the Polish striker.

10

Al Ahly just lacking composure in retaining the ball with possession quickly conceded to the Bundesliga men. A clear pattern developing now with Bayern bossing the action and the Egyptian men looking to strike on the break.

8

Bayern in control and Al Ahly playing with ten men behind the ball as the German side dominate the action with the ball falling to Lewandowski who nods over.

6

Whistles ring out from the Al Ahly fans as Bayern push the ball around with poise and purpose ....

For those just joining us, here's a reminder of the teams

4

Bayern already dominating early possession as Marc Roca threads a ball through and Mohamed El Shenawi in the Al Ahly goal is called into action.

Great levels of noise being made by the Al Ahly fans present in Al Rayyan tonight...After watching games behind closed doors for so long, it's so good to hear the roar of a crowd and fingers crossed before soon we can have supporters back in stadiums across the world.

Bayern start the action here in Doha and a place in Thursday's final beckons for the winners.... Tigres (Mexico) await the victors.

A mild evening in Doha with a current temperature of 19C/63F and no rain anticipated during the action.

Bayern Munich are missing both Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez who failed to travel to Qatar as both sides pose with kick-off looming.

AS English CWC predictions:

Paul -  Al Ahly 1-3 Bayern

Cal - Al Ahly 0-3 Bayern

As mentioned we will have fans at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan tonight with spectators observing strict hygiene protocols given the ongoing covid pandemic. One or two Bayern fans dotted around the many, many Al Ahly supporters present tonight in the outskirts of Doha.

Al Ahly will wear their classic red tonight with Bayern in their away colours of white.

Al Ahly are looking to progress to the final of a CWC for the first time, with a side from the African confederation having never having progressed to the final in the history of the competition and its predecessor the Intercontinental Cup.

A 2013 win over Raja Casablanca in the Moroccan city was Bayern's last CWC victory. Dante and Thiago were on target that night to give the title to the Bundesliga giants.

Al Ahly made it through to the CWC after a African Champions League win over Cairo rivals Zamalek. Bayern overcame French giants PSG in August's UEFA Champions League final staged in Lisbon last year.

Al Ahly

There will be a reduced capacity crowd in the Al Rayyan stadium tonight with a large contingent of red clad Al Ahly supporters present to support their side.

Bayern pre-tournament preparations

Bayern Munich's preparations for their Club World Cup campaign may not have been ideal but head coach Hansi Flick will not use a seven-hour travel delay as an excuse against Al Ahly.

Bayern boarded a plane for Doha immediately after Friday's 1-0 victory over Hertha Berlin but did not depart until the following morning after their clearance for take-off was denied.

The European champions eventually left for the Middle East on Saturday morning and were unable to train when arriving at their destination.

Watch how Al Ahly edged past QSL side Al Duhail in the quarter final game

Pitso

Before any talk of a sixth title for Bayern can begin in earnest, they need to progress to the final where Mexican side Tigres await after a Gignac penalty steered the Liga MX outfit into a berth in Thursday's final. Despite Bayern being favourites to overcome tonight and indeed lift the title, they face stern competition in Pitso 'Jingles' Mosimane's well organised Al Ahly team.

Bayern made a clean sweep last season with their Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League treble, before adding UEFA Super Cup and DFL-Supercup at the start of 2020-21.

The Club World Cup is the only one that remains, and if they manage to lift the trophy it will be Flick's sixth title.

The Egyptian champions will start with the folloiwng XI:

The Bayern Munich team has just been confirmed:

Kick off at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha (Qatar) is at 19:00 CET

Hello and a very warm welcome to our live coverage of the second semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup as Al Ahly (Egypt) face Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
