Rogelio Funes Mori to be called up to Mexico men's national team

Rogelio Funes Mori has been linked to the Mexico men’s national team for some time now and he is about to complete his naturalization process to become a Mexican citizen. This will allow him to be included in Mexico’s roster for the FIFA international break later this month.

One cap for Argentina

He was born in Mendoza, Argentina and was called up by manager Walter Perazzo to be part of the Argentina U20 team that played in the 2011 South American Youth Championship, where he scored twice. Then in 2012 he made his debut for the senior national team, making only one appearance against Brazil.

Funes Mori joined Monterrey CF in 2015 and in 2019 he started his naturalization procedure so he could be eligible to play for Mexico since he has not received the call-ups he wanted from Argentina due to the amount of strikers they have. Now that Gerardo Martino is the manager of Mexico’s national team he could be called up once his procedure is completed.

Since he never made an appearance for Argentina in a FIFA tournament, he is eligible to represent Mexico. It is expected that his naturalization will be completed in the next few days and that he will be included in Martino’s roster for the international break later this month, since Raúl Jiménez is recovering from a fractured skull.
