ATLÉTICO MADRID

Atlético attack Real Madrid: "They even criticise correct decisions..."

Atleti were surprised by some of the comments made by Real Madrid players. The club has spoken out: "Some are used to things always going their way".

MadridUpdate:

The Atlético squad were not too happy with some of the comments made by players and officials at Real Madrid concerning referee Alejandro José Hernández Hernández's performance in Sunday's derby at the Wanda Metropolitano. Within the Rojiblanco dressing room, there is a general feeling of surprise about some of the things that were said by Real Madrid representatives - especially those made by Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño after the game.

"It's not about having luck with the referee, it's a bout being just and fair, and the referee made the correct decision," was the message from Atleti. Even the club has publicly expressed their discontent with Madrid's attitude on social media. On their Twitter account, the club posted a message which ironically alluded to what happened against Madrid and the reaction to the refereeing: "They even criticise correct decisions... Some are used to things always going in their favour".

Penalty appeal in the Madrid derby

Atlético feel that Hernández Hernández was right not to award a penalty when the ball struck Felipe's hand - a view which was shared by the majority of former referees and match pundits. Atleti players feel that Real Madrid deliberately exaggerated their protests about the referee's call. At Atlético, they point out that veteran ex-referees working for several media outlets took Hernández Hernández's side in that particular incident.

After the game, Luis Suárez exchanged a few words with Lucas Vázquez and the rest of the Rojiblanco players feel that if there is anyone who shouldn't have any complaints about refereeing it's Real Madrid, who had numerous borderline decisions go their way at the end of last season.
