Real Madrid: 'Kroos AND/OR Modric' is the question
It may have been an innocent and simple question posed on UEFA's Champions League Twitter account, but one of the players involved had another view.
Real Madrid's Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are Real Madrid's helmsmen. Together with Casemiro, they have formed a midfield trident that will go down in football history. They are top players in their own right, but when together on the pitch they take that excellence to a different level, and this year, despite the culmination of many years in their legs, they continue to stand out.
Kroos AND/OR Modric?
In the Champions League win over Atalanta that moved them into the quarter-finals, the midfield pair - this time with young Fede Valverde instead of their usual Brazilian alongside them - shone once again. And after the game, the Twitter account of UEFA Champions League asked its followers to choose between them.
"Toni Kroos or Luka Modric?" was the question posed, but the German wasn't slow in adding his own thoughts on the debate.
"AND" was the one-word reply from the man that graces the number eight shirt for Los Blancos, clarifying the point that together they are best.
His post was quickly flooded with reactions and praise, not only for his witty retort, but for his part in yet another Madrid success. The UEFA account was also quick to react, and threw another question into the air:
"Best midfield duo you've seen in Champions League history?" That is clearly a debate that will run and run...a bit like the Madrid linchpins.
Zinedine Zidane's side are now into the quarter-finals, and they have done so with Kroos "AND" Modric.
