Dominican Rep U23-USA U23

All over at the Estadio Akron and it's a solid 4-0 win for the USYNT. Jason Kreiss' side confirm their place in the semi-finals but it may be the game against Mexico on the 24th to determine top spot in group A.

Dominican Rep 0-4 USA

3 minutes of time will be added.

Gooooooool. Michel assist and Mihailovic taps into an empty net to make it 4!

A

The live group A table

84

The USYNT now just running down the clock aware that the points are safe. Valiant from the Dominican side but who ultimately had no 'plan b' when they fell behind.

Pineda on for Dominican Rep. with Reyes making way

Tanner on for the US with Yueill making way (US)

78

Dotson on target again with a fine move from the USYNT. Dominican Rep. now looking tired and ragged as the US cut through the side in navy with ease.

75

Very unlikely we'll see a comeback from the side in navy and if anything, the likely option is to see more goals from the US. Goal difference could come into play in the case of a tie with points and more goals could be key.

Dotson with the second goal ... Fine finish from Minnesota United player with Guzman unable to react.

The USA go 2 up.

71

Less than 20 remain on the clock at the Estadio Akron. Dominican Rep. lacking the guile to break down the US and seem unable to modify their game-plan having gone a goal behind.

Lewis off / Michel on (USYNT change)

Lorenzo off / Paniagua on for Dominican Rep.

A win for the US would see Jason Kreiss' side advance to the next stage with 6 points from two games. The USYNT face hosts Mexico next on the 24th.

Dominican Rep. looking for a reply and win a rare corner. The US rob and counter...Dotson drills the ball high and wide.

Hassani Dotson and Djordje Mihailovic for Johnny Cardoso and Sebastian Saucedo (USA)

Gooooool. The US get the goal and it's Yuiell who glides the ball home with a subtle touch. Fine finish from the No. 6

59

Approaching the hour mark and still no breakthrough for the USYNT.

58

Gladd heads but Guzman is down well to save.

Baez carded for a foul on Saucedo

Change for Dominican Rep. - Romero on for Mata

54

The longer the scoreline remains at 0-0, the more frustrated the US side will get... this is a game they were expected to negotiate with ease.

Saucedo goes close just screwing the ball past the post ... a let-off for the Dominican Rep side there.

Mata has a go from distance but easy for the US keeper to gather. The half time whistle came at a really bad time for the US side with the feeling that they had finally found their groove.

48

Danger for the US as Lorenzo streaks away from his marker but in the crucial moment just fluffs his lines and the ball is picked up by the US defence.

Ferreira was on a yellow card.

Off we go, the US start the second half

Jennifer Lopez blaring on the stadium PA as both sides take to the pitch.

Plenty of CD Guadalajara and Mexico shirts on view at the Estadio Akron amongst the reduced number of permitted fans.

The USYNT seem to have woken up just as the whistle sounds for the break. US domination but the Dominican Rep defending solidly.

46

Great free-kick from the US with a move straight from the training ground as Vines volleys just wide.

45

We'll have 3 minutes of time added on at the end of the half.

44

Heading towards the interval and Jason Kreiss will be disappointed from the output from his side. They have been very much in control and seem a tad leggy in the final third.

41

Reyes breaks again for Dominican Rep. with lightning pace but fails to look for a colleague and the move breaks down.

40

The Dominican Rep. struggling to retain possession and are prone to giving the ball away far too cheaply. Despite being outplayed, it's the 0-0 scoreline that will inspire the side in blue.

34

The whistle sounds as Ferriera and Jimenez tangle with the Dominican Rep man going to ground. The game resumes with the US No. 9 needing to watch his step having already been carded.

33

Total dominance now from the US with the Dominican Rep.side pegged back deep inside their own half. Still now way through the wall of navy however.

29

Approaching the half an hour mark and it remains 0-0 at the Estadio Akron. A decent performance from Dominican Rep. in a defensive capacity but certainly Johan Guzman has been the busier of the two goalkeepers this evening.

27

Guzman saves the day again, this time on hand to deal with a Vines header.

25

A series of corner kicks for the US as Dominican Rep. are down to ten men. Yuiell has a go from long range but once again Guzman is well positioned to deal with the danger.

It's the player's shoulder that seems to be the problem.

23

Lopez is on the ground and seems to be in trouble. The No. 4 yelling in agony seeming to fall badly on his elbow. The defender has been one of the standout player for the men in navy tonight.

Ferreira carded for reckless play with the FC Dallas man kicking out at his opponent.

18

Great defending from Lopez for Dominican Rep. as he intercepts a pinpoint pass from Saucedo that was certain to cause problems.

Edarlyn Reyes has impressed for the Dominican Rep. with his mazy runs down the left flank causing problems for the US.

14

Approaching the quarter of an hour mark and despite the US looking the more composed side, the Dominican Rep. do look promising in their forays forward into the US half. They just need a little more belief in themselves.

Marcinkowski making his U23 debut for the US tonight, a big night for the San Jose Earthquakes man.

Dominican Rep. look good on the break but need to commit more men forward. They seem a little 'in awe' of the US side.

8

Lewis breaks for the USYNT and looks for Saucedo at the back post but the Dominican stopper intercepts.

6

Dominican Rep. looking feisty and not holding back in robust challenges

5

All the early pressure coming from the men in white as Domican Rep secure a free-kick and will look to threaten from the dead ball. Lopez heads but fails to get the ball on target.

2

Cool play from Guzman in the Dominican Rep. goal with a neat back heel under pressure. The 23-year-old plays for Real Avila in the Spanish 3a division .... the fourth tier of football.

All set in Zapopan .... The Dominican Rep set to start the action.

"Let's go from the start" is the message from the USYNT players. Daneon Parchment from Jamaica is tonight's match official.

Dominican Rep.in an all navy kit tonight with the USA in all white. National anthem time.

Fans will be in attendance tonight at the Estadio Akron, albeit in reduced numbers and observing protocol as Mexico battles the ongoing covid pandemic. The spectators are expected to arrive to watch the Mexican game so expect the stands to fill as the second half progresses.
