The inclement weather couldn’t stop Hideki Matsuyama from storming up the leaderboard after a hour long rain delay. There was plenty of movement of Moving Day at the Masters but everyone will be chasing the Japanese pin seeker searching for his first Green Jacket.
It was a relatively quiet round until the horn blew at 3:57 ET. Phil Mickelson had the low round at three under, and at E was in the mix for a moment. Whatever Matsuyama did during the weather delay worked wonders for the Silver Cup winner from 10 years ago to the day.
Weather didn't dampen Matsuyama's run to the top
Coming into Day 3 at four under, Hideki parred the first six holes, but then caught fire. A birdie at the 7th got his day going, and he came out of the 78 minute break zoned in. Consecutive birdies to restart his round on 11 and 12 sent a flash warning around the course for what was to come. An eagle on 15 started one of the best stretches of golf we have seen all week. He went four under in his final four holes and holds a commanding lead going into Sunday at -11.
Hideki with a comfortable cushion
Four sit four back a seven under. Thirty six hole leader Justin Rose shot his second straight round of 72, but had to scramble to save par on four of his last five holes to finish -7. If he wins this tournament, Saturday’s final stretch will be a big reason why.
Xander Schauffele caught fire after the break, an eagle on 15 was part of a three under back nine that puts him in a four way tie for second. Marc Leishman had efficient and effective day, with just a bogey all round finished at two under on the day and goes into the final round at -7. Masters debutant Will Zalatoris also sits at -7, after a fearless 71 in the final pairing of the Day 3.
Connors with a hole-in-one on the 6th
Cory Connors had the shot of the day with an ace on 6. If it wasn’t for Matsuyama’s 65, he would have had the round of the day, he sits at -5, and so does Spieth who stayed level with a 72 despite some turbulent moments that included a double on the 7th.
Tomorrow’s forecast calls for sunny skies and calmer winds, as we can expect the best weather all week. This could invite some low scores after the firm greens have been dampened after the delay. There hasn’t been a winner from outside of the top 5 going into Sunday since the 80’s but all eyes will be on Hideki Matsuyama carrying a four shot lead into the final round.
Zalatoris has shown nerves of steel all day long, and had a chance to earn a spot in the final paining tomorrow with a birdie on 18. He pushed his putt wide of the cup but tapped in for a par signing a 71, and going into Sunday at -7. This sharp shooting Masters rookie has been unflappable through three rounds.
What a finish for Justin Rose, saving difficult pars on three of his last four holes. He goes into the weekend at - 7, after his second straight 72.
Everyone finishing up on Day 3 as we take a look at the leaderboard (7:45 ET)
Leishman finishes his rock solid round with three straight pars, and he continutes to hang around the top as he has done all week long. The Aussie joins a four pack at -7.
Rose left his second short of the green leaving a difficult bump and run over the hill onto the green 17. There was a question to answer for JR on the 11 foot putt, but he sinks it and is just barely surviving these final few holes of Day 3 at The Masters. He goes into the final hole at -7.
Spieth with a painful par to end his round. A very makeable putt after a shot that bounced pin high but it just rimmed off the top lip of the cup and Spieth goes into Sunday -5
Lieshman has been right there all day, he walks to the 18th at -7 but plunks his drive in the fairway bunker. Big shots coming up for Leishman.
Rose drops a shot on 16 after a beautiful bunker shot from the bunker before the green. He was unable to save par for a third straight hole. He is back to -7 where he started today
Important par saves for Rose on 14 and 15. He started this par five by letting go on the follow through of his drive, but recovered well with his second. He skied the green on his appraoch and may have been fortuante his didn't find the pond on the bottom of the hill. Up and down after that for an anything but routine par
Xander Schauffele with an outstanding day. Came into Moving Day at -3 and shot 68 to give himself a chance on Sunday. They call it Moving Day for a reason and Schauffele was moving, especailly after the break.
Justin Rose saving par using all of the cup on 14, and celebrates with a little wiggle.
Matsuyama after the delay: 8 holes played, 4 birdies, 1 eagle and 0 bogeys
Matsuyama crushed his second out of the sand 15 yards over the pin on 18 and sent it soaring into the gallery. He shows his wedge game is just as zoned in as his irons with a a chip that caresses over the ridge and settles right next to the hole. He ends his round with a 65 and the first bogey free round of this years tournament.
Rose saves a par by hitting every centimeter of the cup on 14 as it wraps around the cup and drops to keep JR at -8
Spieth continutes to climb, left his eagle attempt inches short on the par five 15, but a birdie four puts him at -6 trailing Matsuyama ,who is in trouble on 18, by five strokes
Connors in the momentary leader in the house at -6, but Matsuyama on 18 will change that in just a few minutes
Matsuyama can not be stopped! He is dialed with his irons and another birdie takes him to seven under par on the day and this is perhaps more impressive then the stretch Rose on day 1. Four under in his last three holes, he was even par thorugh six and now sits with a lofty lead over Rose and the rest of the pack
Rose leaves his birdie putt on 12 short of the cup, and he remains two shots behind Matsuyama.
Matsuyama with another birdie this time on the par three 16 and he's at -10!!! He'has been strinking the ball with pin point accuracy with his irons
Rose in the meantime birdied the par three 12 with a beautiful right to left putt from around twenty feet from the pin. Matsuyama has taken his lead, but not becuase JR is playing poorly.
What a second shot from Matsuyama on the par five 15 that left him this putt for eagle
Hideki WITH AN EAGLE ON 15!!! WE HAVE A NEW OUTRIGHT LEADER AT -9!
Connors going in to the final hole flying high with a birdie on 17, after a fabulous approach leaving a down hill birdie putt. He's one back of the lead at -6
Uncertainty? Rose? HAHAHAHA, that's rich. What a chip that landed perfectly over the bunker on to the fringe and a soft touch for a tap par. What a save on 11 which was greeted with a fist pump from the co-leader
Justin Rose with the first sign of uncertainty all round. His tee shot ended up on the footpath of the gallery well right of the fairway, and his approach sailed even farther right. Tough chip over the bunker and little green to work with to save par.
Connors birdies the par five 15th and he is back to -5 after two bogeys on the back nine. The Canadian reached the green in two but had work to do, his lag putt left a lengthy tap in for the red circle.
Take a look at the putt that takes Zalatoris to the top of the leaderboard
ZALATORIS JOINS ROSE AND MATSUYAMA AT -7!!! The Masters debutant is feeling right at home at Augusta National
How things look at the moment...

Wiesberger bogeyed two straight after our post about him keeping his composure after the break. He's on the par three tenth with chance for birdie.
There are 10 players within four shots the Matsuyama and Rose
The back nine has been JR's time to shine this week, he played the final nine at -9 through the first two rounds.
Rose makes par with a short putt and finishes the front nine even par after consectuve birdies on 1 and 2 and consecutive bogeys on 3 and 4
Connors with a bogey on 14, after a couple pars out of the break. Plenty of fireworks for him today, can he keep up with the pack?
Spieth is -5 and what a stretch of golf he has had. Birdies on two of his last three in the most unpredictable fashion
OHHHHHHH SPIETH!!! Chips in for birdie from way down the slope on 10.
A look at the leaderboard with Matsuyama joining Rose at the top (updated 5:38 ET)
Zalatoris and Leishman sitting right behind -6.
Three putt par for Rose after reaching the par five 8th. A long putt the brushed the fringe set up an ensuing three putt for the co-leader of the tournament.
Hideki Matsuyama proving that the rain didn't wash away his fantastic form. HE NOW IS THE CO-LEADER OF THE MASTERS with birdies on 11 and 12.
Weisberger has responded well after a double on 5, a birdie at 8 has him at -4 and three shots back through the ninth
Spieith had a chance for the first birdie of the day on 9, put his second pin high, but left the makeable putt low of the hole. He remains at -4
`Who will the break have helped? Spieth made a miraculous birdie on 8, He had the delay to rest content at -4 after a double on 7. Guys like Matsuyama and Leishman who were cruising, will the delay have an effect on them? Rose has been steady as he goes, can he continue after the storms?
Before we get back to action let's take another look at the leaderboard (update at 5:15 ET)
AND THERE IS THE HORN BRINGING US BACK TO ACTION IN AUGUSTA
We are just a few moments away from the restart in Augusta after a delay halted play for a little over and hour.
Play is projected to resume at 5:15 ET!
So we take a break here from this third round of The Masters as thunderstorms move in on Augusta National.
Rose takes lead into the weather break
Justin Rose started his round to the sound of thunderous roars after birdies on the first two holes, but two straight bogeys on 4 and 5 brought him back to ground.
Corey Connors has been a human highlight reel today. He started off zoned in through the first three holes, where he sank two birdies. A bogey on five could have sideswiped his momentum, but and hole-in-one on the par three six ignited him and the limited gallery. He finds himself at -5 drying off in the club house.
Matsuyama and Leishman are hanging tight at -5, after solid starts to their third rounds Both have been in the hunt since the early going in this tournament, and show no signs of falling behind.
Still a little Masters magic in the tank for Phil
Phil Mickelson looked maybe best of all today, after going into the weekend at +3. With just one bogey all day, he played brilliant golf to send him to even on the tournament and depending how things end today, he could have a punchers chance on Sunday. .
There are 11 players within 4 shots of Rose, anyone of them could find themselves at the top of the leaderboard with how tight things have been in the first half of Moving Day.
This is still anybodies tournament, that is if Rose ever relinquishes his lead
11 players are within 4 strokes of the lead at the wether break.
While we are at the break you can follow live coverage of the Spanish Clasico Real Madrid vs Barcelona right here on AS English

Spieth with one of the shots on the day from the pines on 8
A look at the leaderboard before the weather delay (4:20 ET)
So we take a break here in Augusta as storms halt play, but what a first few hours of moving day we have had.
The horn sounds, as the weather turns ugly. There was talks of an inclement afternoon. Thunderstorms in the area will put a pause to the tournament with Rose leading at -7 on the 7th hole
Spieth with one of the most unlikely birdies you will see all day. The short putt after the sensational chip on the 8th is good for a red circle. He is at -4 and not for the first time this week he has saved himself from disaster
Leishman with a bogey on 7 just after singing his praises for the steady day he has had. He's back to -5
Shot of the day, maybe shot of the tournament. On the brink of a meltdown Jordan Spieth chipped from the trees on the left side of a narrow green on 8. He drifts it past the hole and lets it trickles down the four a birdie opportunity
Spieth is in really danger of losing control on the par five 8. His second shot went deep into the azaleas and was considering dropping a provisional.
Leishman and Zalatoris are calmly going about their day. A birdie for Lieshman early on is the only wavering on his score card (-7). Zalatoris is looking like an experienced vet in his first masters after a birdie at 3 he bogeyed 4, but remains even on the day (-6)
Rose drops a shot on four and five. He's back to -7 after a hot start.
A DOUBLE BOGEY FOR SPIETH, on the par four 7th. His second shot from the rough really let him down, and his ensuing chip found the bunker. a two putt sent Spieth back to -3
Matsuyama is doing what he has done all tournament long. Not making too much noise, but playing incredibly solid golf. He is at -5, and has just four bogyes on the day
How will Zalatoris handle the bumps in the road on this moving day at his first Masters tournament? Augusta has a few tricks up it's sleeve, let's see is Zalatoris is up to the challenge.
Connors handed his first bogey of the day as he makes the turn. He was four under today until the tenth hole. He's back to -5
Zalatoris with a bogey on the par three four. A stray tee shot set up a very quick down hill putt from the fringe, and left some meat on the bone for his par. He's back to -6.
An updated look at the leaderboard (3:22 ET)
Wiesberger in trouble on 5. His was buried in the bushes, and a punch out to the thick stuff. He pulled the shot out of the rough into the pines. He found the far side of the green after over shooting the green, but his chip hit the flag, and after all that a double doesn't look so bad
Zalatoris drops the down hill birdie putt, and he is under par for the day. The Masters debutant sits in sole possesion of second place.
He is human! Rose misses his birdie putt on three, and gets a gasp from the gallery who at this point expect him to make everything.
Rose has been a sight to be seen all week and the first two holes today have been no different.
Zalatoris check his chip shot past the hole, and he's got a good chance for birde on the third. Rose is a bit farther away, but with the way he has been playing you wouldn't put it past him to sink his third birdie of the day
An updated look at the leaderboard early in the round for those at the top (updated 2:57)
Spieth almost cupped it from the bunker on four. but a makeable cup drifts high of the hole and he drops his first shot of the day. -5 on the Tournament
TWO BIRDIES FOR ROSE OFF THE BAT!!! The one place he has struggled this tournament have been on the first 7 holes. Uh-oh
Consecutive pars for Zalatoris off the line. He's remains at -6
What a chip from Rose on two, after a big drive took him to a wedge away from the green our leader landed it snug and for a chance at a 4 foot birdie.
Spieth gave himself a chance for birdie on three, but his short down hill putt rolled past the hole and the Dallas natve stays at -6
Justin Thomas with birdies on two and three has the Players Champion winner at -6 for the tournament. And all sorts of red numbers in the first few holes for the last groups to tee off today.
Connors with a birdie to follow up his ace on 6. He is at four under already and -6 for the tournament. Canadian is spitting daggers on this front nine.
Everyone is under way on Day 3 of The Masters, here is our first look at the leaderboard early in this thrid round
Xander Schauffele is clawing up the leaderboard. A par on the par three 4th takes him to -5 on the tournament
Our 2021 Masters leader Justin Rose with a birdie on the par four first. He's at -8 on the tournament. If he gets going on the front nine it could spell trouble for everyone else in the field.
Jordan Spieth is one back of the leader after a birdie on the par five 2. His second was just short of the green front bunker, and a cool chip left a downhill putt for his first birdie of the day.
Justin Rose and Will Zalatoris on the opening tee. Rose searching for his first green jacket, while Zalatoris is making his masters debut. Both drives find the middle of the fairway
Connors follows up a bogey 5 with an ace on 6 and he is now sitting two shots behind Rose and three under on the day
COREY CONNERS WITH A HOLE-IN-ONE ONE 6!!!!
Look for those on the first three holes to come out pin seeking. Everyone expects the winds to start swirling, at this early part of the round may be the best chance to get a couple birdies.
Spieth had a chance for birdie, but the rolling putt up and down the center part of the first green falls short and Spieth settles for par, Wiesberger opens his round with short par putt as well
There are a lot of player who have just tee'd off or are about to tee off that would sign on the dotted line if they were offered MIckelson's 69. Winds look like they are picking up and Phil's one bogey round will be exemplary throughout the round
Phil again with an incredible bunker save, and he heads into the club house with the best round of the day. He will enter Sunday at even par .
Spieth's round is underway, he and Bernd Weisberger start their Saturday with razor sharp drives down the middle of the fairway. Both come into the weekend at (-4)
Corey Conners with a nice jump out of the gate, two birdies in his frist four hole has the Canadian at -4 already.
If the winds start to pick up expect for numbers to drop, guys around par like Phil just might find themselves more in the mix than they may have expeted earlier in the day.
Leader Justin Rose (-7) and Will Zalatoris (-6) are set to tee off at 2:20 ET in Saturday's final pairing
Scott ends his third round dead last. He birdied 18, but a triple on 15, and bogeys on 16 and 17 will have the Australian going to the champions locker room happy to be off the course
Phil was more focused on making birdie from the sand than he was saving par. Pin seeking out of the playa and left it with in a foot. The 18'th will be make or break for his sub par Sunday start.
Phil goes from the pines to the sand on 17, and wil have to go up and down for a chance to finish in red numbers.
Horschel has had an eventful few holes. After saving par from the creek on 13 he bogeyed 14 and birdied his next two, including a long hill putt we will see so often today on 16.
Mickelson with a near miss for birdie on 16, but he seems keen on ending his day in red.
Tough pin placement on the par three sixteetnth. It tucked into the front right pocket of the green. Too short and the pond is in play, to far right you'll be playing out of the sand, and if you go middle of the green, and the slope will have you putting 60 feet uphill.
Phil with a par save on 15 keeps him at -3 for the day, and he remains at even. 16, 17 and 18 have been birdieable. Can he get into red numbers going into Sunday?
Billy Horschel gets his feet wet on 13, to save par
Phil going for the green with his second on the par five 15, Mickelson said the ball came out a little sticky. It wont be stick anymore after rolling of the front into the creek.
Adam Scott having a nighmare 15th. After being penalized pre swing for on his third shot, because of the lightest of touches to the ball, (barley noticebale on replay), chips it on to the front slope of the green it drains into the creek. and was lucky not to put his drop in the drink right after. And Scott with a snowman on the par five.
Phil on the par five 15th smacks a drive down the right hand into the second cut. He's got a chance to add to his already impressive low round of the day.
Tommy Fleetwood off to a quick start today, He's two under throug three, after coming into the weekend at even.
Mickelson at even par, drove it in to the junk off the 14th tee. A low burner out of the pines overshoots the green, but Phil is more than capable of chipping in from there.
On that last Scott putt there was noticeable movemet on the 14th's flag. If the wind picks up and carries into later in the day that could create some dramatic golf in the afternoon.
Adam Scott drains a birdie with a big breaker on 14. He is at +6 and currently at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Billy Horschel left his second short and in the creek in front of the par five 13 green, kicked his shoes off and got his feet wet to get the gallery going. He slipped walking down the hill barefoot, but a great water save gives him a long putt for birdie and a grass stain on his back side.
MIckelson with his longest drive of the week the par five 13, leaves himself some work to do for eagle
So far today, everyone who has already tee'd off came into today at even or on plus side of par. Kevin Na, Jon Rahm Henrick Stenson and Martin Laird are the only ones who are under par for the tournament in the early stages of Friday. All are at -1
Masters Day 3: 'Moving Day' is set
Rose still in the lead after Round 2
Justin Rose held a firm grip on to his lead despite struggling on the front nine yesterday. Although the rest of the field is lurking, JR continuers to set the pace, up stroke lead going into the weekend.
He has looked solid all week, especially on the back nine where his is -9 through the first two rounds. Keep an eye of his first nine holes, if he can survive the front half of Augusta, be able to give himself a cushion on the final nine going into Saturday.
Plenty of names in the mix after an eventful Friday
Among the many names that are on the heels of Rose are Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris. Zalatoris is in his first Masters ever, but the pressure has not seemed to affect him up until this point. Saturday at Augusta is enough to give even the most wiley of vets a butterfly or two at one point in the round. How will Will respond to those difficult moments in one of the biggest rounds of golf he has ever played?
Spieth was an early week favorite, and has played exactly how you would expect a favorite of the tournament to play. After a steady 71 on Thursday Spieth pounced up the leaderboard yesterday, and sits comfortably behind Rose at -5.
Will anyone make a Saturday surge from the bottom of the board?
Bryson DeChambeau is among the contestants a bit farther down the board who will be hoping to gather momentum on moving day. He is -1 after two days, and if he can keep control of his game off the tee, watch out. Jon Rahm is another one of those a handful of strokes off the lead, but he wouldn’t surprise anyone if he shoots a low number today after a calm first two rounds, if the Spaniard can make a run, it would cap one hell of a week for the recent first time father .
With the conditions continuing to create problems, and scoring being anything but easy, expect some rises and falls on Moving Day at the Masters.
World number one Johnson will be relieved of Green Jacket
If April is the cruelest month, Friday of Masters week is the cruelest day.
Midway through the Tournament, the field of the year’s first major championship — and the only one held at the same beloved course each year — is winnowed by nearly half. At the 85th Masters on Friday, the chaff included Dustin Johnson, the defending champion and No. 1-ranked player in the world.
Johnson bogeyed three of his final four holes to shoot 75, which, paired with his 74 on Thursday, left him two strokes outside the cut line of 3-over par. The low 50 scorers and ties through 36 holes qualify for weekend play. The last defending champion to miss the cut was Sergio Garcia of Spain, who shot 81-78 in the first two rounds in 2018.
Johnson attributed his poor play to failing to adjust to the quick pace of the greens at Augusta National.
“Obviously, I wanted to be around for the weekend,” said Johnson, who set the Tournament scoring record of 20-under par on a much softer and slower course in November. “I like this golf course. I feel like I play it very well. I just didn’t putt very good. It's pretty simple.”
After some thorny moments, Rose's petals bloomed
Overcoming another poor start, Justin Rose, whose opening 65 staked him to a four-stroke advantage, rallied to shoot 72 to go into the weekend at 7-under 137, with Zalatoris (68) and Brian Harman (69) at 138.
Jordan Spieth, the 2015 champion (68), and Australian Mark Leishman (67) are at 139.
Six golfers are tied for sixth place at 140: Bernd Wiesberger of Austria (66), Tony Finau (66), Justin Thomas (67), Si Woo Kim of South Korea (69), Cameron Champ (68) and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan (71).
