Andrés Perea sad about poor MLS impression in South America
The Colombian-American player said that people in South America don’t give Major League Soccer the recognition it deserves.
Major League Soccer has been one of the fastest growing leagues in the World and each season there are more young players that choose to continue their career in the United States before making the jump to Europe. Thiago Andrade is one of those examples, with the 20-year-old winger having left EC Bahia and signed a three-year-deal with New York City FC.
On Tuesday several players around the league were interviewed by Major League Soccer in Spanish and Andrés Perea from Orlando City talked about how people in South America look down upon the league. The Colombian-American also praised how this league has grown in the past few seasons.
“MLS is looked down upon in South America and they are totally wrong. Since I am a young player people said I made a bad decision coming here, but honestly I have become a better player and I think they should respect it more,” he said.
“Competitive football”
Perea also talked about the qualities that he sees in Major League Soccer and the type of league it has become. The midfielder believes there is a healthy balance between experience and young players in each team that helps for the growth MLS is continuing to have.
“Major League Soccer is characterized for having a very competitive football, very quick and strong. This league has grown so much that younger players are choosing to come here as well as superstars from Europe’s top tier,” he added.
