The NFL Draft Day is always a wagon wheel full of transactions, transitions and trades that are enough to leave viewers and broadcasters in a tizzy. So a few days before the draft we try to simplify the situation going into the opening round of the selection show.

NFL Draft 2021

The Draft will begin at 8 pm ET in Cleveland, Ohio

Thursday’s draft hosted by the city of Cleveland, Ohio has dominated the sports page since the final round of The Masters. Who will the Jags take at #1? Who will the Super Champion Bucs take? Will there be three QB’s drafted in the opening three picks?

So much uncertainty surrounds the draft, many are making their final mock drafts assuming the order today will be the same as when Roger Goodell announces the first pick shortly after 8 pm ET.

Plenty can change between today and three days from now. Once the draft is underway we expect to see all sorts of shuffling over the three-day, seven round event. So far there are six teams in the first round who have changed their draft selection spot due to pre draft trades.

San Francisco sent shockwaves through the Draft with Miami trade

There was a big shifting of the sands in March when San Fransico made a deal with Miami, who then made a trade with Philadelphia. The Niners made their intentions clear by locking up a spot in the top three after agreeing to terms with the Dolphins.

Kyle Shanahan kept no secret of his desire to have a QB that fits his offensive system. Mac Jones wasn’t expected to go in the first five picks, until San Fran made the trade of this years draft. Once the deal was made, the Alabama gunslinger was propelled to the top three picks of the first round.

Miami, in return, received the 12th pick of the first round and a third rounder this year, along with first round picks in the next two drafts.

Shortly after that, Miami struck a deal with Philadelphia. Philly gave Miami this year’s 6th and 156th pick in exchange for the 12th and 123rd pick along with a future first round pick in 2022.

Seahawks one of three teams with no 1st round pick

The Seahawks gave away their first round selection to the New York Jets which gives the team from the Meadowlands two opening round picks, and leaves Seattle with just three in this years draft.

Jacksonville will also double down in the first round, after an agreement with the LA Rams will have the Jags eyeing a potential partner in crime for Trevor Lawrence with the 25th pick.

The Rams and the Texas join the Seahawks as the three teams without a first round selection on Thursday. That could change in the couple days leading up to the draft day. If we have learned anything from previous drafts, it’s to expect the unexpected.
