Mavs vs Nets game recap
The Dallas Mavericks are hitting stride at the right time. They have won five of their last six, including tonight's narrow 113-109 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
The Mavs came into tonight just a half game above the Play-In zone, and needing to keep their winning ways going to stay above water and avoid the inaugural entry tournament into the playoffs.
First quarter set the tone for the Mavs
It was a lightening fast start for the home side who were red hot from the tip. They scored 37 points in the first quarter, but struggled to keep that momentum up in the second quarter.
Luka Doncic had a bright start, but faded a bit in the last half. The Slovenian led the victors with 24 points ,10 rebounds and eight assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. has been in fantastic form of late and had some big buckets down the stretch when it seemed like the Nets had ideas of making a late charge.
Kyrie the top scorer, but Luka has last laugh
A 13-2 run in the middle of the fourth quarter was enough to put Dallas ahead, and they never looked back.
Kyrie Irving had a fantastic night, and at times in the second half seemed like the only Net that could find the the basket. Irving finished with 45 points, his eighth 40 point game since joining Brooklyn in 2019.
Kevin Durant, looked out of sort on the offensive end. He has recently come back from a thigh injury, despite playing some fantastic basketball in both games against Milwaukee he looked fatigued tonight.
Harden looking to return before playoffs
James Harden watched the Nets loss from the bench, sidelined with the Hamstring injury that has kept him out since April 5th. The good news for Brooklyn is Harden believes he will be back in action before the playoffs.
Both teams with work to do in regualar season's final strech
The Nets have now lost a season high four games in a row. The 76ers seem like a lock to wrap up the top seed in the East, but the race for second between Brooklyn and Milwaukee is starting to heat up in the final stretch of the regular season.
The Mavs move to 38-28 and are a game up on the 7th placed Portland Trailblazers who would have to take part in the Play-In tournament in the regular season ended today.
The Mavs now have a home and away series against Cleveland, while the Nets’ road trip carries on to Denver.

The Mavs will be hoping to avoid being inaugural participants in the first ever NBA Play-In-Tournament. The event will take after the regular season and will feature the 7th-10th seeds of each conference.
Four teams from each conference will battle in a March Madness style knock out tournament with the winners earning the 7th and 8th seed in their respective conferences.
The tournament will start of the 18th of May and finish on the 21st.
With the shortened season, the NBA took advantage of some shifts in the schedule. Most notable the tournament that precedes the NBA Playoffs.
The 7th and 8th seed will play each other for an automatic bid and the seventh seed in the playoffs. While the loser of that game will face the loser of the 9th-10th seed game. The winner of that will lock up the final spot in the post season.

The Nets travel to Texas after back to back losses to the Milwaukee Bucks. Tonight’s game will be the third of a five game road series for the Brooklyn side.
Back to back losses for the Nets has them two games back in East
Despite Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant going for more than 30 points a piece, the Nets dropped their third straight on Tuesday night. Milwaukee had 18-1 run in the fourth quarter to seal the win and Brooklyn fell farther behind the conference leading 76ers. They are 43- 23 this season, and they sit two games behind Philly.
Dallas has won four of their last five and fighting to stay out of the Play-In-Tournament. To do so, they will need to finish the regular season with the sixth seed or higher. Coming into tonight they sit at 37-28, which is just a half game above the Trail Blazers in the 7th spot in the West.
Harden out tonight, targets pre-playoff return
James Harden is close to making his comeback, but will sit out tonight as his hamstring still recovers from an early April injury. Kevin Durant leads the Nets in scoring dropping 28.3 a game, while Kyrie Irving is averaging 27 a night.
Dallas is led by their Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic who is averaging 28.5 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the year. But second leading scorer Kristaps Porzingis will miss tonights game with a minor knee injury.
These two team met in the beginning of the season, with Dallas trouncing the Nets 115-98. KD and Kyrie both missed that game, but are available tonight. Can the Nets stop their losing streak? Or will the Mavs continue to float about the Play-In-Tournament zone?
