Eden Hazard has said sorry to the Real Madrid fans for laughing with Chelsea players after the final whistle in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg, which saw the Spanish side well beaten 2-0, going out 3-1 on aggregate. Hazard started the match but produced a very tame performance.

Hazard: "I am sorry"

The former Blue wrote on Instagram (in Stories, meaning the post will disappear within 24 hours): “I am sorry. I have a read a lot of opinions about me today and it wasn’t my intention to offend Real Madrid fans. It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win. The season is not over and together we must now battle for LaLiga! Hala Madrid”

Real Madrid fans reacted furiously when TV footage showed Hazard apparently having the time of his life with Chelsea players on the pitch, just after their side had been knocked out of the Champions League.

In a widely shared monologue, Josep Pederol, a commentator on Spain’s Chiringuito TV football show, demanded the former Chelsea player never play for Real Madrid again, citing how much he cost, supposedly around 100 million euros, and his poor performances on the pitch since, with the laughter after the Chelsea game the final straw.

Four games to make up with the Madrid fans

After a poor season, Hazard now has four remaining games in LaLiga to try and finish the 20-21 in style and make up with the Real Madrid fans, something that helping win the title would no doubt help to do. Zidane has started him in the last two games, against Osasuna and Chelsea and appears to be keen to try and get the Belgian back to his best as soon as possible.
