Raúl González could be in line for a return to the Bundesliga as coach of Eintracht Frankfurt. According to reports in Germany, the Eagles have expressed their interest in the Real Madrid Castilla coach as a successor to Adi Hütter, who will be moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of the season and Goal Germany has stated that Frankfurt have already made contact over a move for the former Schalke forward.

However, talks have been put on hold for now with Raúl’s side and Frankfurt both having pressing matters at hand. The Bundesliga side, with three games of the season remaining, are fourth in the table and looking to secure their berth in next season’s Champions League. Castilla, for their part, are chasing a place in the play-offs in a bid to see Madrid’s reserve side promoted to Segunda División for the 2021-22 season.

Raúl moved to Schalke from Real Madrid in 2010 and became in instant fan favourite before spells at Al Sadd and New York Cosmos preceding his move into management with the Madrid youth sides. Frankfurt are said to have been impressed with Raúl’s work at Madrid’s reserves, not least at bringing through young players including Serio Arribas, Antonio Blanco and Miguel Gutiérrez, who have all played for the senior side this season.

Frankfurt believe that bringing in Raúl will guarantee the continuance of their own project, which has been based on scouting young players and developing those in the Bundesliga club’s academy. With the departure of Hütter and sporting director Fredi Bobic, who is moving to Hertha Berlin, Frankfurt see Raúl as the ideal candidate to continue the club’s trajectory along the same lines.
