Hernández inspires LA Galaxy to win against LAFC
The Mexican international scored a goal and gave an assist in Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 victory against city rivals Los Angeles FC in matchday 4 of the 2021 MLS regular season.
The Los Angeles Galaxy had their mind set on bouncing back from the 3-0 defeat against the Seattle Sounders for week 3 of the 2021 Major League Soccer regular season last weekend. The team with the most titles in the league (5) hosted the Los Angeles FC at the Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night in the first edition of this year's El Tráfico.
Chicharito the Man of the Match
The LA Galaxy secured the victory and the three points with a 2-1 victory against their city rivals thanks to another brilliant performance from Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández. The Mexican international scored the opener in the 11th minute of the game to give his team the lead before half time. This was his sixth goal in four appearances this season for ‘Chicharito’ with the LA Galaxy.
LAFC would equalize thanks to Diego Rossi after a beautiful give-and-go play with teammate Corey Baird inside the box. The reigning MVP was able to beat goalkeeper Jonathan Bond to score his first goal of the campaign and give the Los Angeles FC the chance to bounce back against their city rivals.
LAFC suffers first loss of the season
But ‘Chicharito’ would have the final say of the match, because in the 79th minute he received the ball inside the box and gave a diagonal low cross to Jonathan dos Santos. The LA Galaxy captain riffled the ball to score the second and decisive goal for the LA Galaxy to secure the victory.
With this victory the Galaxy are 5-3-2 (W-T-L) all-time against LAFC and remain undefeated in matches played at Dignity Health Sports Park with a 4-1-0 record at home with 13 goals in favour and seven against. Their next game will be at home against Austin FC on 15 May.
