Barça keen on Griezmann-João Félix swap deal
The good relationship between Laporta and Mendes could enable the operation to happen, which would see Griezmann return to Atlético Madrid.
According to TV3's Onze programme, Barça would welcome a Griezmann-João Félix swap deal. The presence of Jorge Mendes, João Félix's agent, in the operation could help make it viable, according to TV3. The channel explained that both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid paid similar amounts for the players.
To understand the operation from the Blaugrana point of view, there would be two arguments to make. First, that the French striker's performances have not been as expected at the Camp Nou club in his first two seasons. Griezmann has not failed, but he has not made the leap the team needed. Secondly, Mundo Deportivo have already reported that, in order to continue, club president Joan Laporta will negotiate a reduction in his salary.
Messi's future could have impact
João Félix is a player who has always been liked at Barça despite the fact that his move to Atlético has not worked out so well. However, he could have the same problem as Griezmann at Barça. His ideal position, that of second striker, is occupied by Messi. Whether the Argentine will be at Barcelona next season remains to be seen.
The news also comes as talk of Barça's transfer policy ahead of the 2021-22 season begins. The aim for the Catalan club is to sign players who are seeing out their contracts and enquire about cheaper deals due to the lack of economic muscle to deal with larger transfer fees.
