Real Madrid: Zidane exit wouldn't affect Mbappé move

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain and France star Kylian Mbappé wouldn’t be affected by an end-of-season change of coach at the Bernabéu, AS understands.

Zidane may leave Real Madrid this summer

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane’s future at the LaLiga giants is in serious doubt, with former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri and club legend Raúl González Blanco in the frame to replace the Frenchman if he does leave the 13-time European champions in the summer.

Mbappé's heart set on Madrid, with or without Zidane

But despite suggestions that Mbappé’s arrival in the Spanish capital could be dependent on his compatriot and idol staying put, sources close to the mooted deal have told this newspaper that the striker is determined to join Madrid, regardless of who is in charge next season.

Mbappé, who is out of contract in June 2022, has repeatedly rebuffed PSG's attempts to tie him down to new terms and has no plans to accept the Parisians' latest offer, which would see him earn close to the 36m euros net per year currently pocketed by club-mate Neymar.

The fact that he can expect to be paid no more than 25m euros a season at Madrid offers further proof that the 22-year-old’s desire to sign for Los Merengues goes beyond the identity of the club’s coach.

As Mbappé continues to stall on signing a new contract at the Parc des Princes, Madrid aim to persuade PSG to sell the forward for a reduced price in the coming transfer window, rather than risking losing him for free at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Haaland a year early if summer Mbappé deal doesn't happen

Were Real Madrid to fail to prise Mbappé from Paris this summer, the club would attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland 12 months earlier than planned, albeit at a higher cost than in 2022.

Madrid would then seek to snap up Mbappé on a free transfer in a year's time.
