Billboard Music Awards: Who has taken home the most awards?
The Billboard Music Awards will take place on 24 May, our team took a look back at artists and groups that have taken home the most prizes.
The Billboard Music Awards are one of the music industry’s biggest nights. Unlike the Grammy awards which are distributed based on votes from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Billboard awards are given out based on streaming volumes and radio play, album, and digital songs sales, touring statistics, and engagement on social media.
This year the award ceremony will take place on 24 May. Some of the biggest prizes of the night include Top Artist, Top New Artist, Top 100 Hit Song, and more.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Nick Jonas and performances by Doja Cat and SZA, Alicia Keys, The Weekend, and Bad Bunny are planned.
Who has won the most Billboard Music Awards?
Drake
Drake leads the pack with twenty-seven awards total. Drake swept the Billboard Music Awards in 2017 and 2019. Both nights he won more than ten awards including:
- Top Artist
- Top Male Artist
- Top Billboard 200 Artist
- Top Song Sales Artist
- Top Radio Songs Artist
- Top Streaming Songs Artist
- Top Rap Artist
- Top Rap Male Artist
In 2017 Drake was nominated for twenty-two awards and brought home fourteen and in 2019 of the seventeen nominations he received he won thirteen. This year Drake is nominated for six awards including:
- Top Artist
- Top Rap Artist
- Top Streaming Song Artist
- Top Billboard 200 Artist
- Top Male Artist.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift leads female artists in the total number of awards received. Since 2011, Swift has won twenty-three awards. This year she received four nominations for:
- Top Billboard 200 Album -- “Folklore”
- Top Billboard 200 Artist
- Top Female Artist
- Top Artist.

Country
In the country sphere, Garth Brooks has received the most awards, nineteen in total. Since his first nomination in 1991, Brooks has won every award he was nominated for. The biggest year for Brooks was 1998 where he won six total.
This year the nominations for Top Country Artist are Gabby Barrett, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, and Morgan Wallen.
Groups and Bands
As far as groups are concerned, Destiny’s Child -- the group composed of Beyonce, Kelly Roland, and Michelle William -- won ten awards. Like Brooks, the group won all awards it received nominations for.
Who is nominated for Top New Artist?
Top New Artist one of the biggest awards given out. Last year the prize was won by Billie Ilish. This year’s nominees include Gabby Barrett, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Pop Smoke, Rod Wave. Artists and groups that have won this award range from boy bands like One Direction to solo artists like Lorde, Justin Bieber, and Sam Smith.
