Barcelona have kicked off their summer signing campaign with an early frenzy, adding Manchester City and Spain defender Eric García to Ronald Koeman’s squad on Tuesday after landing Sergio Agüero from the same source on a free transfer a day earlier.

Barcelona officially announced the arrival of García - a long-term target for the club who spent his formative years at La Masia - on Tuesday with the 20-year-old signing a five-year contract at Camp Nou. Barça have added a €400m release clause to the defender’s deal.

García is expected to be presented at 14:30 after undergoing a medical at the Hospital de Barcelona and another under the supervision of the club’s doctors at the Ciutat Esportiva.

Barcelona eyeing Netherlands pair

The Spain defender will head off to join up with La Roja shortly after he puts pen to paper at Camp Nou after earning seven caps for his country since his debut in September 20202.

The signing of their former youth defender from City and the addition of Agüero has added two quality signings to positions where Koeman would probably like a few more options next season. Barça are still working on two more signings – Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum seems set to join on a free and Koeman remains keen to be reunited with Netherlands forward Memphis Depay.

However, current Oranje coach Frank de Boer has said he will not allow any of his squad to leave the team camp ahead of Euro 2020 to attend to club business.
