Who has beaten Floyd Mayweather? When was his last loss?

Floyd Mayweather’s boxing career has been perfect. From his record, to his record breaking pay days, since turning pro Floyd can do no wrong in the ring. But right before going pro “Pretty Boy” Floyd was defeated in the Atlanta Olympic Games and went home with the Bronze Medal.

Bulgarian Todorov downs Mayweather

Way back in the summer games of 1996, Floyd Mayweather was in the losing corner of the semifinal bout against Serafim Todorov. It was the last time the future king of the ring would lose.

Mayweather didn’t go down with out a fight, both inside the ropes and outside. In a surreal finish of the fight that went to decision Egyptian referee Hamad Hafaz Shouman jumped the gun and raised Floyds hand, only to find the judges had sided with the Bulgarian.

Sanchez bested Floyd earlier that summer

Augie Sanchez had defeated Mayweather earlier that summer in qualifiers after a tight 11-12 decision. Floyd bounced back and won two in a row over Sanchez to secure his spot in Atlanta.

The fight with Todorov was by far the most polarizing loss, and most controversial in Mayweather’s boxing career.

The head of the boxing officials in the Atlanta Olympics was Bulgarian Emil Jetchev. The U.S. team filed an immediate protest to the 10-9 decision ruled in favor or Todorov. The United States team claimed their star 125 pounder was landing punches that weren’t being counted, while the Bulgarian was the recipient of phantom points.

Olympics ended Mayweather's amateur career

The result of the fight even provoked Judge Bill Waeckerle to the step down from the federation and as judge for the Olympic Games saying “I refuse to be a part of an organization that continues to conduct its officiating in this manner”.

That was the spring board Mayweather needed to launch him into an undefeated professional boxing career. “We all know I got ripped off. It’s time for me to turn professional. I can’t deal with amateur boxing anymore” said Floyd after the ’96 semis.

Mayweather has gone a perfect 50 for 50 since the Todorov fight. “It made me strive and work hard to get to where I’m at today” Floyd said looking retrospectively.

Even though it’s an exhibition that won’t count against in favor or against his professional record “Money” Mayweather will put his reputation on the line in a June 6th bout against Youtuber and amateur boxer Logan Paul.
