Following the LA Lakers' defeat to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the NBA playoffs, LeBron James has said he will concentrate on playing for the Toon Squad this summer instead of heading to the Olympics in Tokyo.

The Lakers star was discussing his movie project, Space Jam: A New Legacy, which is set for release in the US in July. The Space Jam sequel comes 25 years after the original Space Jam movie's release in 1996, which starred Michael Jordan.

"I think I'm gonna play for the Toon Squad this summer instead of the Olympics. My focus is on trying to beat the Monstars, or the Goon Squad, as we call them now," said James after the Lakers' loss to the Suns.

"I didn't have much success against the Suns, so now I'm gearing my attention to the Goon Squad here in July."

Space Jam: A New Legacy, which also stars Hollywood actor Don Cheadle, is set to hit cinemas on 16 July, coinciding with a release on HBO Max.
