Amazon Prime Day 2021 is just around the corner but the deals have already begun. The official launch will be 21 June and run through 22 June this year, earlier than its normal July date but returning to summer after being pushed back to October in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic. However, Amazon is already releasing deals in the run-up to the big event.

What is Prime Day?

Amazon has extended the one-day opportunity to a 48-hour shopping frenzy where the company offers its Amazon Prime members deals that can even outcompete Black Friday sale prices. Customers can find deals on a wide range of sought-after items. The deals can take the form of Lightning Deals to ones that have begun even before the main event.

Amazon Prime day deals are only available to Amazon Prime members to entice customers to sign up for the company's $13 a month service. Between Prime Day, free shipping and additional services Amazon has added over the years membership is booming. There are currently more than 200 million Prime members worldwide CEO Jeff Bezos said in a letter to Amazon shareholders in April 2021.

This year even non-Prime members can enjoy part of the action, just not the deals. Prime Video will stream globally a three-part immersive musical event featuring Billie Eilish, H.E.R., and Kid Cudi starting on 17 June, according to Amazon. The show will be will be available to all customers for 30 days, with or without a Prime membership.

The retailer is also giving a nod to small businesses and a chance to get credit toward purchases during the Prime Day sale, for every $10 spent at a small business vender through Amazon from now until 20 June, customers will get a $10 credit toward a purchase made 21 or 22 June.

Before the kick off of Prime Day customers who have Alexa in their house can use their device to let them know about upcoming deals with “Alexa, what are my deals?” starting 18 June.
