The Milwaukee Bucks are back to level in the Eastern Conference semifinal after defeating the Brooklyn Nets in Game 4. A sensational first half from the field and yet another spectacular performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo were enough to knock off the Nets 107-96.
Irving exits early with an ankle injury
The headline coming out of Game 4 was the injury Kyrie Irving suffered in the middle of the second quarter. After converting a lay up underneath the basket Irving landed on Antetokounmpo’s foot twisting his right ankle.
The Nets were already with out James Harden when Brooklyn’s second leading scorer went straight to the locker room after the injury and would not return. MRIs came out negative and now the Nets now must play the waiting game to see when Irving can return.
Milwaukee started hot from downtown in Game 4 win
Both teams came out of the gate with an intensity that was only appropriate for a game holding such importance. The defense was physical, the offense free flowing while the Bucks and Nets exchanged blows in the first quarter and a half.
Milwaukee went 5-11 from three point range in the first quarter to climb out to a 26-23 lead. Until the Irving injury, both he and Kevin Durant were keeping Brooklyn close in a game that looked like it would go down to the wire.
KD had 12 points at half, and Kyrie scored 11 before his injury sent him to the sidelines.
Big run for Bucks in start of second half
The Bucks went on a 13-2 run after the halftime break to take command of the game. Durant was left alone to try and make a comeback bid, but his 28 points weren’t enough to keep the series from evening out.
Giannis led the way with yet another brilliant night, scoring 34 points and 12 rebounds. Khris Middleton followed with 19. It was PJ Tucker who hit a flurry of threes in the second quarter, but it was his defense that made the difference for the Bucks.

Tucker set the tone with his physicality, frustrating Kevin Durant after the two had a spat in Game 3. KD still went for 28 but Tucker injected a shot of life into the Milwaukee defense.

"Game 4 should be special," Kyrie Irving said. "We've just got to be able to respond better. And that's just due to our preparation and our game planning
Joe Harris was held to 1-11 from the field last game, scoring just 3 points. KD and Kyrie can't do it all on their own. Joey Buckets will have to come up with a nice night from Milwaukee.
Middleton is expecting to be a big contributer tonight, "It's just a matter of staying with it," Middleton said. "Taking some of the same shots. Just having the confidence to knock it in."

Middleton paved the way in Game 3
The Milwaukee Bucks survived a tight Game 3 against the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Khris Middleton set the tone as the Bucks outlasted the Nets to stay alive in the second round series.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had to have felt a bit solo after receiving little help from his supporting cast in the first two games in Brooklyn. Khris Middleton stepped up to the mic and delivered the masterful performance Milwaukee needed to narrow the Nets series lead.
Defense dominated in Bucks win of Thursday
These two teams were among the best offensive squads during the regular season, but Game 3 was a defensive showdown. Milwaukee has struggled shooting the ball all series, but they let their defense do the talking on Thursday night.
Harden out for Game 4
James Harden has only played 48 seconds this series after he tweaking his hamstring in the opening quarter of Game 1. Word out of Nets camp is his condition is improving, but he has been ruled out of today’s game.
Giannis and Kris Middleton scored 68 of Milwaukee’s 86 points in Game 3. Middleton who struggled in the first two games finally caught fire and led the way with 35 points and 15 rebounds. Antetokounmpo is a certainty to put up big numbers, but Middleton will have to play a key role in Game 4 for the Bucks to level the series.

Kevin Durant has been outstanding all postseason, averaging 32 points per contest. With no Harden, the Nets need a big night from Kyrie Irving. Brooklyn’s Big Two, with the absence of Harden, were dialed in to open the series from Barclays Center, and they’ll be hoping to rebound after Thursday’s loss.
