England 0-0 Scotland: as it happened

MOTM: Billy Gilmour

Group D tonight:

Czech Republic - 4 points

England - 4

Croatia - 1

Scotland - 1

The Scotland fans are roaring their players on. The reaction from them is one of immense pride. The tartan army marches on!

Scotland fully deserve their point and give themselves a glimmer of hope in Group D. They have their first point in a major tournament in 23 years.

England move onto four points but lacked any real intensity. Scotland can be proud of their performance at Wembley tonight.

FT: England 0-0 Scotland

91+

McGinn clears an absolute mess in the box. Seven or eight players are looking for the ball, it's total chaos. Scotland breathe.

There will be two minutes added on!

90

Very surprising that Southgate hasn't made any more changes. England have been flat to be honest.

Flower of Scotland booms out around Wembley. Spine-tingling.

89

Shaw fouls McGinn, that will suit Scotland.

86

Scotland change:

OFF Adams

ON Nisbet (Top scorer for Hibernian this season)

84

England look really flat now and Scotland have the upper hand.

Gilmour vs England

83

Mings wins the header and England take possession again.

82

McGinn's effort from distance goes out for a corner...

Referee Mateu Lahoz waves the play on. 0-0

Robertson fouls Sterling in the penalty box. Penalty?

78

Adams blazes it wide. The ball falls to the striker at the back post and he smashes it into the Scotland fans behind the goal.

76

Scotland change:

OFF Gilmour

ON Armstrong

Scotland have done a very good on marking Harry Kane. The Spurs captain is removed with just over 15 minutes to go.

74

England change:

OFF Kane

ON Rashford

74

Shaw gets himself into the box and fires it across but there is nobody there.

Group D remaining fixtures:

England vs Czech Republic

Scotland vs Croatia

72

Mount plays in Sterling. He's offside!

71

Steve Clarke and Steven Reid are discussing tactics on the sidelines. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dykes replaced for Scotland.

Gilmour is winning his first full cap for Scotland tonight and he has been outstanding.

69

England 0-0 Scotland

There are just over 20 minutes to play at Wembley.

66

Another corner, this time for England. McGinn clears Mount's corner. Scotland breathe again.

Robertson curls it in. Pickford is the first man out and punches it away.

Scotland win another corner. What a shift they have put in tonight.

63

England change:

OFF Foden

ON Grealish

63

Dykes' volley is going in and James clears it off the line. Vitally important for England. 0-0

JAMES CLEARS IT OFF THE LINE!

62

O'Donnell with the cross, Mings head it over the bar. Corner to Scotland.

59

Harry Kane drops the shoulder on the edge of the box, he gets it onto his left foot. Scotland get behind the ball and the Spurs captain's effort is blocked.

58

Jack Grealish is warming up...

55

REECE JAMES STRIKES!

James is about 16 yards out. The strike whizzes over the bar. It's maybe time for an England change...

Scotland have not scored a goal at a major tournament since France '98.

52

Robertson storms down the left wing. He whips it into the box but England's defence clears the ball at the near post. Scotland are starting to creep back into it now.

50

England have stepped up it and are really taking the game to Scotland now.

48

Marshall saves from Mount!

Super save, super effort too by Mount.

England have so much talent on the bench so I'm expecting a few second half changes. If you're only joining us now, it remains 0-0.

46

England get us underway for the second half.

Thhe players are back out on the pitch!

England had two glorious chances in the first half. Scotland have held their own at Wembley, they will be delighted.

HT: England 0-0 Scotland

45+

Robertson overhits the cross and Phillips clears it for England. Great spell of play from Scotland to win the corner.

45

Scotland corner right on half-time!

If England win tonight, they will be in the last 16. Scotland are looking for their first points.

41

Scotland are growing in confidence now and playing it around the back. England have had the best chances so far.

Pickford punches the corner away! The Everton keeper does well.

Scotland have their first corner of the match!

38

Scotland boss Steve Clarke will be delighted with this so far. It's 0-0, it's fascinating stuff and evenly poised.

Harry Maguire looks to be getting ready to come in for England...

34

No real zip about England's play yet. Their possession numbers have increased. Some patient build-up play but Scotland will be happy to contain it.

30

SCOTLAND CHANCE!

Pickford pushes O'Donnell's strike wide. Great strike, great save. O'Donnell has never scored for Scotland.

29

Reece James whips in a great ball from the right wing. Kane can't reach it properly and his header goes wide. He is offside!

28

Harry Kane has been really quiet so far. He is being marked by three men.

It's 0-0 so far but this is typically a high-scoring match. The teams have met 32 times previously at England's national stadium and none of those matches has ended goalless.

In the 21st century, this fixture averages four goals per game, with England scoring 11 and Scotland five overall.

There are 2,600 Scottish fans in Wembley and they sing Flower of Scotland - it sounds like there are 26,000 of them. Incredible noise.

26

Rice catches Dykes, who has taken a fair beating so far.

22

Tierney strikes!

Kieran Tierney smacks a 30-yard effort wide. It falls onto his weaker right foot and doesn't test Pickford.

21

England are on top now. Foden is making some good runs in a free role. Scotland are beginning to sit off England a bit more after a flying opening 15 minutes.

Mount swings it in, Scotland clear.

19

It's a corner for England!

17

FODEN CHANCE!

He drags his effort wide and is offside.

15

It's a yellow card for McGinn. Dykes is fouled by Mings and McGinn has obviously said something to referee Mateu Lahoz.

13

Adams plays in Dykes but Pickford flies off his line and grabs the ball. Positive from Scotland.

12

STONES CHANCE!

What a chance for England! Stones is free in the 6-yard box. It's a great header but it smashes off the post. 0-0

11

Foden picks out Mount on the edge of the box, he goes to bend it into the far top corner. It comes off Hanley's back and out for a corner.

Stones heads the resulting corner off the post!

10

It has been 100 miles an hour here, full of free-kicks and passion but very little football. It will settle down eventually!

9

Scotland free-kick after a foul by Phillips.

Mings clears the danger! 0-0

The referee tonight is Spaniard Mateu Lahoz and I think he'll be busy. Lahoz refereed this year's Champions League final.

7

McGinn flattens Kane - Scotland are not letting England settle here one bit. Free-kick to England.

The two Chelsea players going to battle at Wembley! Gilmour and Mount.

6

It's getting feisty on the pitch now. Mount shoves Gilmour this time. This one has it all!

4

Adams goes close!

Excellent move by Scotland and Stones makes the block in front of Pickford.

Scotland are going to do their best to stop England playing tonight.

Kalvin Phillips shoves Grant Hanley to the ground. It's a foul but also a goalkick for Scotland.

England are in all white, while Scotland are in all blue.

A reminder of the teams...

2021, it's supposed to be 2020 but here we are.

This is only the second time that the sides have met in a major tournament.

We're underway at Wembley!

It's England vs Scotland

Both sides take the knee.

Both anthems were roundly boo'd...

And now for the English national anthem.

The rain is coming down now!

The Scottish players and fans sing the Flower of Scotland loud and proud, goosebumps!

We're all set for the national anthems.

The players are in the tunnel!

Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay said Scotland, playing in their first major tournament since the 1998 World Cup, cannot afford to lose to England, who are in high spirits after a 1-0 win over Croatia.

"We're still hurting from Monday. And obviously, for us, it's a real chance now to go and get some points on the board," McTominay told reporters on Thursday.

"You go in to win the game but most definitely don't lose, that's first and foremost. We have to get a result, it's as simple as that.

"I'm sure you'll see a big reaction, players hungry to win the game and obviously do it for everyone in Scotland."

Recent history is not on Scotland's side. They have beaten England just once in their past 11 meetings: a 1-0 win at Wembley in November 1999, secured by a Don Hutchison goal.

Their only previous meeting at a major tournament, back at Euro 96, saw England win 2-0 thanks to goals from Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne.

Kick-off is just 10 minutes away and the atmosphere is building in Wembley!

England vs Scotland: 100th clash between Auld Enemy

This is a typically high-scoring match, but Scotland's record against England must improve if they want to breathe life into their campaign.

The Three Lions began Group D with a 1-0 win over Croatia at Wembley, while Scotland suffered a 2-0 loss to the Czech Republic, Patrik Schick scoring from a header and then a quite remarkable strike from near the halfway line.

This is typically a high-scoring match: these teams have met 32 times previously at England's national stadium and none of those matches has ended goalless. In the 21st century, this fixture averages four goals per game, with England scoring 11 and Scotland five overall.

Victory for Gareth Southgate's side would guarantee their place in the last 16, while a positive result is a must for Scotland: should Steve Clarke's men lose and Croatia fail to beat the Czech Republic, the Scots will be unable to finish in the top two and must rely on their chances of ending up as one of the four best third-placed teams.

England vs Scotland: times, TV & how to watch online

The Auld Enemy Scotland are heading south to London, as England await in one of the eye-catching games of the Euro 2020 group stage. It may not be a clash between two giants of the footballing world - although Gareth Southgate's men are definitely in with a shout of lifting the trophy this year - but it's a rivalry that goes back nearly 150 years. And this means a whole lot more than just a game to the fans.

Scotland are still "hurting" from defeat by the Czech Republic in their Euro 2020 campaign opener, but are keen to make amends against England in Friday's game at Wembley, midfielder Scott McTominay said.

After losing 2-0 to the Czechs on Monday, Scotland know defeat against England could crush hopes of making the last 16.
