Atlanta United boss Gabriel Heinze receives a one game suspension

The Argentine head coach will not be available for the ‘Five Stripes’ in Wednesday's road game against New York City FC due to yellow card accumulation.

Atlanta United boss Gabriel Heinze receives a one game suspension

Gabriel Heinze was appointed as Atlanta United’s head coach for the 2021 Major League Soccer season. The Argentine boss is having a hard time adapting to the league and currently the ‘Five Stripes’ are in ninth place with 11 points in the Eastern Conference.

One game suspension

Atlanta has accumulated three draws in their last three league games and in the last match against Philadelphia Union, Heinze received a yellow card in the 46th minute in last week’s 2-2 draw against the Union for touching a player while they were exchanging words in the sidelines.

Due to yellow card accumulation, Gabriel Heinze won’t be able to coach the team on the sideline for the road game against NYCFC for week 9 of the 2021 MLS season. The club confirmed the news on Tuesday, but he will be able to travel with the team and assistant coach Mariano Toedtli will take over the job.

"He [Mariano Toedtli] is very cable to manage the team, maybe more than me. The players will have the same information from him and due to the rules in MLS I won't be able to communicate with the coaching staff during the game against NYCFC," said Heinze.

This is not the first time Heinze had an exchange of words with a player or a coach during his time in Major League Soccer. Last month the coach of the Philadelphia Union, Jim Curtin, called Heinze a ‘sore loser’ after Atlanta’s elimination of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals.
